Why do you care what anyone believes?

I believe in a lot of things, except for trying to make anyone else think what I do.

Smart money says, "leave them in whatever sauce you found them in".

Although I believe in the resurrection of the dead, I do not believe in the resurrection of this thread.

I suppose I am a little late to this party but here goes...
I have never been accused of being a "Bible Thumper" at least to my face, but I have read it a time or two. I do believe the Bible is the inspired word of God but I doubt I will fully understand it's depth and meaning in this lifetime. One step at a time.

I appreciate your search Mike Nobody. Asking these questions is the first step and there are no easy answers to anything of true value in this life. We all wrestle with faith at different times in our lives. There are reasons these questions are coming to the surface now. Hang out with them for a while and just listen. Your path will become clear when you take time to listen.

Regarding science and logic... These are very useful tools for functioning in our daily lives. Like a good guitar and amp they are tools at our disposal. They do certain specific tasks really well. Without spirit and inspiration they fall terribly short of understanding the universe though. Using science and logic, how do we measure spirit and inspiration exactly? As a musician I find some of my greatest moments late at night, when the band is totally in the groove, and I can just completely let go and soar for a while. I hear bits and pieces of my oldest influences pouring through my fingers in ways I have never played before. I never rehearsed any of this and yet, here it is, completely inspired playing with my brain essentially switched off. This is nearly as close to being "At One With The Universe" as I can get on this earth and it is the reason I play. Many many musicians share this inspiration around the world every day and yet science and logic are totally inadequate tools to explain it.

I am a musician and not an expert in matters of science and the universe, so I will defer to a well known expert on the subject:

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstein

Or my personal favorite: "Go out into the world and shine your light" - Jesus Christ

Now what self respecting musician doesn't want to take that call? I hope you find peace in your search.

in this case, your imaginary friend is the human race ...

If I thought there wasn't a God I would have put a bullet through my head already, as would many people, but it's God who gives enough strength and enough warning for people to want, and/or keep on living.

A thread like this is thoughtless, gloomy, and depressing. And also dangerous. Why try to protest hopelessness amongst people? Is this just an attempt to turn questioning people from the existence of God? If so, why?

Not trying to be the king of pain here, but, I've lived a terribly rough life. No exaggeration. If there wasn't a God I would look about 1,000 years old.

And no, I do not just believe that God exists due to circumstances. I questioned this at about the age of 4.

Oh, there are lots of people who’ve committed suicide BECAUSE of God too. The Almighty isn’t in the business of preventing it. If you found the strength to stop yourself, it was YOU yourself that did so. Like the kid in the Matrix who tells Neo, “You saved me.” And Neo replies, “You saved yourself.” Of course, Neo being a stand-in for Jesus.

This thread originated from a discussion in another that was taking that thread over. It just made sense to give it its own thread.
Gloomy? Depressing? Why? It doesn’t have to be. I don’t know what you mean by dangerous, though. Is someone gonna lose their temper and jump through the screen? Same risk in every thread.

Protest hopelessness? I don’t get what you mean.

I don't recall telling anyone what to do. Keep your paranoia to yourself.
