One of the greatest R&R songwriters of the era. "Eclipse" is one of my all time favorites..

I remember hearing he went through a terrible depression, to the point that at one point years ago the record co. didn't want to release his record as it was too "bleak".

I had a conversation with Eddie Vedder about the time he met Rodger Waters and was too drunk to remember what he said......

Well...if he'd remembered, you wouldn't have been able to understand when he recounted the conversation...

The only thing to say to that is...Syd Barrett. The guys in Floyd were architects by training. They pretty much just imitated Syd after he left. But, I will say Waters got out while the getting was good. The Wall was the last decent thing they did. After that they kinda turned into Genesis, middle of the road AOR poop.

I'm probably the only one here who didn't like "The Wall". It's depressing and does not compare to their earlier work. Give me "Meddle" or give me death.

Loved Animals
Wish you were here is great
Meddle was good
Loved the Wall too. .. it's very political. I see it more in that vein and the darkness of the political agendas of our times than as from a depressed state of being.

Jimmy I do see how you could not like it though. It does sort of demand a certain mood from a listener.

Yep give me the pre 80's Floyd.

But people are passionate about The Wall; I had a friend who drove to LA and that was the only tape he had. He estimates he heard it over 200 times and still loves it. To each his own.

Borin' story;

The first time I heard Pink Floyd a friend and I were sittin' on top of his porch roof at 2am in a small town in Minnesota 'because that is the only place we could pick up Beaker Street underground AM radio" trippin on some Orange Sunshine and "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict" started playin'. Needless to say that was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Flotin' around peoples roof tops watching fire flies explode into millions of fire flies making strange noises. ahh, to be 14 again.....

Les Claypool's Frog Brigade did a really good job covering "Animals."

I'll be in that crowd in Atlanta along with my brother and wife. I went to see Pink Floyd at a concert in Clemson for the Division Bell tour and had a blast. Had to piss as they came out and got started and instead of waiting in a long line I took the porto jon located right behind the control tower. The bass had that thing literally moving so much I thought I might fall in. Roger waters wasn't on this tour and I haven't seen him yet. I just hope he can bring it out as good as David Gilmore did at Clemson.
