Dunno if they recorded it. They'd open their set with it.

That reminds me of the "gig" we did the other night. Played mainly horrible versions of classic rock tunes. All band members drunk (except me) and just about everybody in the bar dancing. It's amazing the crap you can get away with when everybody knows the songs...

I think if I had to play Journey songs (or even hear them) all night long it would create a compulsive non stop gag reflex

I guess if 3 chord balls to the wall distortion with off pitch screaming vocals and double bass kickdrums in your ear all night, or 3 chord acoustic strumming with off pitch vocal poetry. My guess is you ain't gonna like Journey!  :P

I have heard that first album before Steve Perry and its awesome any version of Journey beats the HELL out of SOME of the stuff I have heard on this site. Me I like Heavy music but I also like Beautiful harmony vocals with a Tenor lead vocalist and LOTS of MELODY great keyboard arrangements and a badass guitar player But thats just me!

Nope. It's me too!

The musical snobbery kills me! As if good production and arrangements and memorable melody lines, and multiple millions of record sales and worldwide success were a.... gulp... SIN! ;-)

Where is the ability to appreciate GOOD SOLID SONGS, whether they are your PERSONAL cup of tea or not?

LAME!

Makes no surprise to me that Mr Haley has a high opinion of JOURNEY.
Music he plays and links he post would indicate J likes what to him is "good music" with little attention to genre' labels.
I can respect that. For myself, it just does not work that way.
I would not argue the "musical quality" of JOURNEY'S music.
I just don't identify with it and it's lyrical content holds no "power" for me.

Oh, I like some of their hits (Don't Stop Believing, Wheel In The Sky, Any Way You Want It, etc.). I just don't like THEM, as people.

Bad Brains also made some great albums. But, they're homophobic religious dickheads.

Not liking a band or even a genre of music for any reason is not snobbery. It's just personal preference. I vote for the things I like with my dollars; if I won't spend my money on it I probably don't like it, that's all.

Something changed in music after the 60's; people started to realize that they could make music to make money and this became the focus; previously most people made music for the love of it and occasionally got rich doing it.

I just want to add my thumbs up. It may not suit everyone, and I respect that, but I always thought Journey was an incredible band. Then again, I like it for my own reasons...lots of people like punk music; It's like nails across a chalkboard to me. I prefer a polished sound-and Journey is the epitome of this.

Perry is a solid vocalist with a crazy good range. The songs appeal to the masses because they are solid songs. Cheese? maybe. Hip? No chance. Steve was quoted as saying he never felt he was "part of the band" The band was quoted as saying "what is he talking about?!" I think he might be crazy from too much big league success or maybe he was born that way. What do I know though. I know "wheel in the sky" is a great song.

I'm not saying they aren't good....
