In my experience nothing good ever comes from playing with drinkers and addicts, no matter how good they are. The sad thing is a lot of VERY good musicians ruin their lives on the hard stuff...it's a shame. Look at all the famous people who didn't make it past their 40th birthday because of the addictions.

I can live with it if they keep their sh*t wired tight. I don't mind what people do on THEIR time, as long as they don't f**k around on MY time. KnowhutImean?

I never liked the musician, talent contest atmosphere. I've done it though, and haven't had too many disappointments so far.

It's so much easier and relaxed starting a band with your friends. It can also be a curse, because usually when a band breaks up, it's not under good terms.

You must be comfortable with the guys you're playing with. I have seen musicians get fired simply because they were not likeable. I have also seen them replaced by musicians with less skills simply because they were likeable. Being personable/likeable can be the most important "talent" to land you a job...being in tune with the band, is another thing. As a matter of fact, I hate using a tuner. I prefer tuning to someone, most likely the lesser skilled musician. Because it all boils down to the ability to use your ear. Stronger musicians experienced in listening to intonation, often find that the ability to rely upon themselves can be a lifesaver.

But all in all, many famous mucians have similar stories to yours.

I got jacked up and thrown through a wall by a 400+lb. guy and then evicted. Not good terms.

Then, I guess I'm f**k. Social skills are NOT my strong suit.

Funny story, my youngest daughter has been learning the guitar. He restrung it and tuned it up for her. She gets it and reworks all the knobs. He got tweaked and said "why'd you do that after I tuned it for you?" She goes: "it didn't sound right so I fixed it." I told him one battle at a time.

Maybe she was going for an alternate tuning sound.

That's her, all right. I often read back on her IEP reports from school and they give her exercises where she's supposed to follow their instructions. They constantly have to battle with her because she wants to do it her way or change it. There were a few places I was on the floor laughing in tears because some of it read like a skit. So they decided to praise her for her "out of the box" thinking.

I do not miss my IEP's... Just because I can't focus well doesn't mean I'm an idiot. The special ed tutors always assumed I couldn't tie my own shoe. Really, really pissed me off. I had some bad experiences in that system.

My dear father had a cure for my A.D.D. back in the 60s.

It was about 42 inches long 1 inch wide 1/4 inch thick made of brown bridle leather.

Worked so well I still have focus when he's around. LOL

Neighbor once asked him how he kept his kids from playing out in the street.

My old man told him; " Give me a belt and a week I can keep you out of the street. "

I wanted to laugh ... but knew better.

Wonder why the neighbors never came to visit.

Most definitely! I try to be as loose as I can, even though a first time meeting and try out can make anyone a little nervous. It's like you're stepping in someone else's house, so having a healty amount of respect and personality requires good balance.
