I want to tie one on about once a blue moon. Last time I tried the bottle of Petrone [ half a liter ] was gone before I caught a buzz so I gave it up that night.

I guess it depends on your definition of "wasted."

Never once in my life have I been "falling down drunk." Nor have I passed out in my own vomit. I don't feel like I"ve missed anything, either!

The truth is when I do go completely sober and straight I don't like what I write. You may all think that all o the material I write when I'm stoned sucks. And you may all like what I write when I'm sober n clean... well I never was into this to please others. Only to connect with them.

I hear ya Hayden. Jay (my singer) and I got together last night, drank some beers, smoked some green (or blueberry as it is), and wrote most of 2 new songs. That's how we roll as well...

"Wasted" here means stoned on Pot.

Booze sucks, never did I dislike something as much as I do the "fermented wheat water". If it didn't get you drunk, YOU wouldn't drink that crap.

I get BLOTTO on booze, 1x a year if I can help it that goes to 0x a year.

And the weed? Well, at one point I could say I was a daily smoker. But you get dull and listless, it becomes boring and you have to change if you like to think.

Do I like to write music stoned? LOL It's the only way to ride the majestic Aurorea Borealis to points unknown and further.

I do not, however, advise people to smoke and perform. Some are very good at it, while others become sloppy and complacent. I am in the latter category.

If you see me smoking in the parking lot, you can pretty much rest assure that I am done for the evening.

The absolute best I've ever performed was when (I'm being totally honest here) I was so high on heroin that the one and only thing on my mind while getting on the stage... "man I really don't wanna fall off the stage"

I don't do heroin anymore. Haven't for over a decade and never will again. But I was absolutely in the zone and the whole room (including the bartender/co-owner ) went fukn berserk. This was in a very popular club in Columbus Ohio and it was complete pandemonium...
It was the single greatest night of my entire musical life :D

As far as weed. I also play and sing and perform my best when stoned. The problem is, I can't do it as long. within a half hour my voice weakens. my focus wains and I get a lil sloppy.

So I prefer to perform sober of weed and very slowly sip on beer.

I used to think that being stoned was the only way to be creative.
. . . discovered that it can take a month the get rid of all the effects.
Don't need it for anything, now, or for a couple decades . . .
Now I'm as creative as ever, and don't have to ever smoke.
And the stuff i create now is waaaaay better than the stuff I created then.
.
Try being straight for 6 months - you'll see . . . that is, if you have any desire to stop - and enough will-power to do so.
.
Smoking makes one lacadaisical.

I've actually went without smoking for much longer than that... same deal. It just gets my creative juices flowing immediately... and I do mean immediately; as soon as I smoke a lil I am attracted to my guitar like a moth to a light. If a guitar isn't handy, I start jonesin.
Not to mention it helps me in many other ways.

NEVER.....Unless you want to count the time I played with 2 Red bulls, 2 fioricets w/ codiene and 2 vicodin onstage one night... I shouldn't have performed as I've got 3 herniated and 2 bulging discs in my neck and I was in no way, shape or form to even leave the house but I had to honor the gig....BIG MISTAKE... My band mates were very, very pissed at me as they knew I was zonked...but.... the crowd obviously didn't notice and I actually got a raving review from a lot of them when the gig was done...suffice to say, that gig caused a problem with the band and I...

The next day I got a call that no matter how well the crowd thought I performed, they didn't think the same and was warned if I ever pull that sh*t again, I'm out! It was the beginning of the end for that project
