I don't think Kenny G's success as an instrumentalis has anything to do with it. Matheny is a skilled and imaginative musician and I think he was using his musicianship to judge Kenny G.

I just don't think so. It was FAR TOO VENEMOUS for being an onjective critique. Metheny is ANGRY AS HELL. That is not objective. That has personal disgust written all over it. And it wasn't just the part about laying tracks over someone else's song, but it ran through the whole thing.

To me, it would almost be like being the best baseball player BY FAR on a team, but someone with far less talent than you, gets paid the big bucks, and you are reduced to a second stringer, even though YOU are the one with the real talent.

It doesn't apply to sports. I think Metheny is PISSED that this is the way it is, for commercial music. Someone ELSE, LESS TALENTED getting more spotlight, more money, more fame, more Oprah... LOL - I would think Metheny is fed up, because of how unfair it "seems".

I don't know.... He's REALLY REALLY ANGRY for some reason.

I felt this way for many years. The only reason I am commenting on this is because Pat Matheny is involved. Pat Matheny is a fine musician. Kenny G. has left a bad taste in my mouth. I've seen them both in concert. You can defend Kenny G. all you want, it won't make him any better. If Kenny G is a talented musician, he ain't showin' it. I don't care how much money KG makes or how popular he is, I have no financial or commercial stakes in whether Kenny G. is successful or not. I still don't see him as having the skill or talent that is comparable to Pat Matheny. I also feel that Pat Matheny has the competence to express sentiments similar to my own.

Mary, the only thing I am judging is the VENOM with which he expresses this opinion! Kenny G, is a musician. Pat Metheny is a musician. Musicians DO NOT need to ATTACK ONE ANOTHER because one is better than the other. Metheny can express his opinion with CIVILITY! Why the additional ANGER about it? Kenny G isn't affecting Metheny's career.... he hasn't trashed Metheny in public or brought harm to him personally.

It is distasteful and quite simply BAD MANNERS!

We all know what an amazing musician, composer, etc... that Pat Metheny is, and we all accept that Kenny G is not in the same league, as a musician.

And??????

AND???????????

Case closed. Why the ANGER? Why the HATRED?

You know... the more I think about this... I could care less how great a musician Pat Metheny is... When he is such a sucky human being!

But I want to know....How does Metheny really feel???

I happen to know the former guitarist for a certain soprano sax's road band, and lost all respect for the guy when he canceled the health insurance for this guy after he'd been his guitar player for 20 years

Especially since he'd made close to 12 million bucks that year.

Just the bottom line maam.....I need a new jet.....

Yeah...that holier than thou musicians "attitude" sucks. Walk into any music store in Seattle and it's thick in the air.

Too bad about your friend, people, and life can be pretty cruel at times.....

You just have to ignore the naysayers. There's going to be people spouting B.S. all the time. The know it alls of the world can kiss my ass. That's the attitude one has to have. The Berkely School of Music is a fantasy world of idealogs. They can take their "knowledge" out on the street and get NOWHERE with it real fast. Listen to the people of the world, the blue collar people, bikers, rabble rousers, the people who are going to STAY at the venues you are playing. They are the ones who are going to BUY you or not. The highly "educated" people at a University haven't got a clue...and NEVER will. You could become the most technically proficient musician but if you don't communicate with the common folk you can take your technical knowledge and shove it down a toilet for all it's worth...
