Maybe I'm just a dumbass but I literally can't keep up with the speed of rap. By the time I figure out a line, they have already rapped another four lines. I just don't get rap, never have, never will.

Well there's some here who obviously admire rap . . .
And some who don't.
Add me to the side that thinks rap is crap . . .
I don't hear art or music: I hear truculent, angry chanting.
Hell, I'd rather listen to tubas and acordians . . . and I really don't like tubas and accordians.
If I die and go to hell - they're going to make me listen to rappers who are rapping to tubas and accordians . . .
:)

It's either rap you'll like or the worst rap EVER.

Obviously. No qualms there.

I don't hear art or music:

To not like it is certainly fine. To not hear music makes you a stubborn geezer just like the old people who had a problem with Elvis, the beatles, hendrix, metallica etc etc etc. It is clearly music with rythms, chord progressions, melody etc.

So when people rap about love, life, teaching children, even God its angry?

Some of the Christian Rap at the fore mentioned show was pretty good. More rhythmical than most I've heard, not that mindless crack head monotonous drown.

RM is a lot like me in this regard I believe.

Not enough interest sparked by the little we have heard to really do any research into the form. ( notice I did not use the word ART )

IMO c-Rap sucks. But there are most always exceptions to be found.

I'm just taking a stand here.

Hahahahahaha!
No such thing!

That's like saying all country or all and genre has no talent.

You don't like rap? No problem. I don't like reggae. Then here comes haleamano and they threw me hard! They became my obsessively favorite new artists.

To say a genre has no talent makes you look stupid and takes away all of your credibility.

Talent, like beauty lay in the eye of the beholder IMO.

The majority of rap that I have given an honest effort to listen to does NOT follow a melodic progression. Technically it is NOT music. It is an art form of some kind, spoken rhyming words to a drumbeat, but the bulk of rap ISN'T music by its purest definition. I don't begrudge anybody who makes a living at an art form. I do argue whether this art form IS music. Perhaps you COULD say that rap is atonal music accompanied by spoken rhyming words. Like I said, I don't get it, never will. It also seems to be fading in popularity. The rap mania has lasted a lot longer than I would have expected. It has lasted longer than disco for example. I can't imagine a rap song will be played on an oldies station someday. It is its very own entertainment media with its own ardent fans.
