Oh BTW, I saw the Soundgarden reunion at Lollapalooza this summer. They were GREAT!! Cornell can still belt it out like it's 1991! Impressive. The band definitely revived that early 90s Seattle sound! Fun show.

So i was online and saw Gin Blossoms is back, they had that song "hey jealousy", well they got a free download of their new song "Miss Dissaray" http://bit.ly/b3P4I2 its not bad, who is feeling a 90's comeback?

I'm not really feeling a 90's comeback yet. We sure could use one though. Todays music is so washed out and completely commercialized, similar to the late eighties. We need another rock revolution like we had in the early 90's. Wheres Kirt Cobain when you need him?

Relative to this topic, file this under - "oh yeah!" Dave Grohl has never stopped. He has been cranking out credible, radio friendly material since nirvana. 20 years counting nirvana. Now he's kicking butt with "them crooked vultures" I'm not saying the radio isnt flooded with fluff. I am saying there will always be good rock available even on the radio. Of late we've had shinedown and theory of a deadman.

Though I still contend that if we want another revolution in rock we will have to do it ourselves.

Your loop tour was an example of that inspiration to my eyes.

From among the struggling artist will come an entrepreneur or group of same. They will be fuel and spark for the uprising. A grass fire, if you will.

My band played this big outdoor deal sat night. The crowd was from teens to 80 yr olds. In my area they were dancing to music from the 60s thru the 90s. We went from a hyper Johnny Be Goode to Spoonman and they were digging it all the way thru.

Even music that sucks can be brought to life with the right attitude and presentation. We do some stuff that I dont care for but what the hell Ive got freedom to do what I want with it anyway, I chose to just have fun with it and do it my way. We did Jailhouse Rock right next to Suck My Kiss and they were just grooving the whole time. To me 80s and even 90s rock is classic rock at this point. The crap is 20 yrs old, I feel like a king cause I was playing a lot of this stuff when it first hit the airwaves and Im still playing it now, and putting it across in a strong positive way.

All I can add is dont get hung up on the titles of songs or the eras just get out there and rock!

I think Ive just reached a point in life where I dont get hung up on what I like. If they want Sweet Home Alabama so what, we do a heavier version of it, and soemtimes even do a U2 Raggae version if that makes sense.

Talking 90s bands Soundgarden would be my favorite. They jsut had soemthing a little diffferent than the say STP or AIC or Pearl Jam. I love to play Outshined, its not a crowd pleaser but when we practice we run thru it, cause i like the song. Does that make it good music? No just my opinion. At a live gig we can play Brickhouse and the crowd loves it versus some of my PET songs.

You guys that read this, if you are going to be a cover band and try to get paid, listen to the audience and play what they want to hear. Just reach into those songs and breath whatever you have musically to add to them and things will go good for you. You can have some of your favorites on hand, but in the end if you want people to like you, you have to give them what they want. We were talking the other night and figure that our basic band has done somewhere around 1500 paying gigs over the last 30 years. Thats a lot of experience in front of people and getting them off their asses. Its my job to give them what they want. In our case most of them want to relive some favorite music they remember growing up. They want to feel young again. They dont care if I play the perfect solo, I dont care if I play the perfect solo. They just want to hear soemthing familiar that they can get up and dance too.

All of that post sounds like a seasoned pro talking.
