I've noticed not only do episodes of Lockup go in rotation all the time, but also new prison sitcoms are being made. The media will do anything for ratings with no regard as to how much brainwashing of our youth is at stake.


There's nothing cool about it.

America incarcerates more of its population than ANY other country. We also have a tendency to make something "cool" out of sh*t we're stuck with. Being poor means "keeping it real". Working your ass off til you drop dead from a heartattack means you're a "hard worker". George Dubya Shrub had a big dumb grin like he was gonna high-five the guy that told him he worked three jobs just to survive. It is a stupid culture.

Lots of people view going to prison like going to college.
It's a place where they study, learn their craft, and then graduate.
Their diplomas are often tattooed on thir skin.
it's a breeding ground for killers. thieves and rapists.
We used to hang them, 100 years ago.
Now our taxes pay $30,000 for each criminal. every year, to feed them and clothe them, buy them TVs, and cable and such.

It's an incentive to be bad.

Let's go to each prison, and every day - kill the worst of the worst.
Like we used to do.
Less incentive for them, that way . . .

It's not their fault they are criminals.
It's society's fault, or they were abused as kids by their parents, or they were bullied in school, rejected by women, or just temporarily insane.
All part of the entitlement process.

We have created a criminal element society in which prison time is a badge of honor and a training / proving ground for the gangs.

The reason the old school cosa nostra refused to deal drugs was the long prison terms a and tangible evidence associated and took their soldiers off the streets too long. ( that's been > 30 years ago )
A full 1/3 of the federal prison population had no right to be in the US to start with, most are "repeat offenders " as well.

Should be a gallows in the square of the county seat of every county in America where violent predatory criminals are eliminated from society immediately upon conviction, in the jurisdiction in which the offense occurred. With the population of Juvenal Detention in attendance.

Really, how much is it OK to kill you over?
If you’re innocent and on death row, whatever they’re paying to keep you alive would feel like pocket change.
The judicial system always has and always will be flawed. Lots of people are later exonerated who spent decades behind bars getting gang raped. At least we could let ‘em go. You want firing squads? Go to a banana republic.

Watch the film “Blow.” It is a biopic about the biggest drug dealer in American history. He talks about how he “went into prison with a bachelor’s degree in marijuana and came out with a master’s degree in cocaine.” Dumb laws are part of the problem. Police waste time and resources enforcing them. The incentive is to not get caught. If police are busy busting some kid for a joint they are not busy finding the killers and rapists. Get a lot of stupid laws off the books and crime, generally, will drop. There’s a higher certainty you’ll get caught.

Not in Michigan. We were the first state to abolish the death penalty.
Why stop at firing squads? Why not bring back witch burnings and crucifixions? Boil ‘em in oil? Enough with these pu**y executions by lethal injection. They need to televise some pain so people get their money’s worth. It’s bloodlust and revenge people want, not justice.

Repeat offenders released because of overcrowding in prisons. We keep building more prisons (lots of $$$ to be made) but can't keep up with the growing population. So more repeat offenders get released prematurely (if they ever should have been let out all), commit more crimes, and go through the turnstile all over again. Meanwhile, several new criminals have taken their place and you need to build more prisons.

This is all true. Another symptom of mollycoddling criminals.
But not if you eliminate the violent criminals and illegal aliens from the prison population.

A prisoner shanks another ... walk him out to the yard and hang him.

Riot / fight breaks out in the yard.

The guards in the towers shoot everyone standing.

The average pre school and daycare have more effective rules about violent behavior than do our prisons.

Make them take responsibility for their actions.

It works ... anything else is a waste of time.

I don't know how much "mollycoddling" is really going on. Any ex-cons I ever met seemed a little "shell-shocked." I'm pretty sure PTSD is common.

Yeah, I'd agree about the rules. Like, who's bright idea is it to let prisoners lift weights? Prisons should be run a little more like military academies or boot camps, I think. That includes making the guards responsible for THEIR behavior. I've met too many thug cops who are on a fascist power trip. Prison guards couldn't be much worse.

I would think the PTSD is from the lifestyle as much as anything.

Crime is well documented to be directly linked to the society's economy.

Prisons are now a business (that gives contributions) and crime has always been good business... just like war.

It is also well documented that our (and other) government pays for "content influence" in Hollywood as well as media outlets world wide.

If you don't think that your childhood environment influences your adult decisions... well, I'm glad you had that kind of childhood.

If you give your leaders the right to kill, you also have to give the control of the standard of qualifications of penalties; show me a government with that power that doesn't eventually attempt eliminating their opponents... whatever that group may be, even when it's large segments of their own population.

That was a point I was trying to make, about the prison industrial complex. Make something profitable and you’ll get more of it. Crime pays, and not just criminals.

Yeah, we’ve been having a good laugh at the recent “vegetable conspiracy” on TV. Every other damn commercial is pushing vegetables on people. “Buy this car! Now with two servings of vegetables!” LOL! “Sloppy Joes aren’t meat anymore, they’re vegetables.”

Childhood environment is more than what is on TV. If you can’t tell fiction from real life you’ve already got some problems before your environment ever had any effect on you.

In Japan, if you do a crime and your family doesn't come and take care of you, you die. "Now thats family values"

If you take away the yakuza fighting each other, Japan has the lowest crime rate in the world.
