Starts off like "smells like teen spirit" then it move into "I-I-I-I-I-I-I'm not your stepping stone".
It could be fleshed out to be unrecognizable.

At the very beginning, with the bass, I heard "Rock You Like A Hurricane"., When the other instruments came in, I hear more of Tom Petty's "Refugee".
That being said, I think it's distinctively different enough to not automatically draw comparisons...Definitely a good launching point. Good Job!

I hate it when that happens to me. At least you didn't pour your soul into it. Having said that you can still finish it. You can flesh it out in your own way. The more you add the less it will sound like the other song.

Look at "25 or 6 to 4", and "last resort", "Brain Stew", and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You".

All very similar descensions.

Look, the chord prog is identical top "Steppin' Stone," but I wouldn't worry about it. Your melody is NOT the same as that song, & chord prog's cannot be copyrighted.

Ain
t a damned thing wrong with what you're doing, & with a little creative production, it won't sound ANYTHING like that Monkees' hit.

I thought it had some soul. Personally I'd drop the synth sound in the lead and make it an organ sound, but I liked it and didn't think of any song in particular, more of a genre sound......
