I see everyone is picking on Sly today!

I dont know about him not showing up for shows, but lately Ive been listening to his old greatest hits cd and thats just some awesome music. Everytime I listen its like I hear a different voice or a different instrument. Then when I researched it this music was mostly done in the late 60s! They just dont do it like they used to is all I can say!

Nah John Sly was cool and the recordings were great. But he frequently never arrived for gigs back in the day.

Sky's music was outstanding. His attitude SUCKED!

White ppl who bought good seats at his concerts were told to move, so his black brothers & sisters could move on up & enjoy the show. I lost all respect for him as a person, then...but I must admit that his music still moves me.

Just goes to show ya - you don't have to be a great person to make great music...

The lesson learned here seems to be, "Be an asshole and you'll be a star." or "Geniuses can afford to be pricks."

Another people don't realize about people like Sly, they ripped off a lot of stuff too. My hubs told me about a couple of well known musicians who would hold jam sessions at their homes and be secretly recording the sessions, only to hear their stuff being played on the next album. Since it was only a jam session, nothing was recorded or written down. I wouldn't say this is the case with Sly because I don't know, but it was a well known thing. I've been the studio and have watched producers pull in musicians to play "parts" for them and once the "song" comes together, the producer would take sole credit for it when in reality, those musicians actually wrote it, all the producer did was say "yeah, I like that, play that!" Send the guitar player in there and play something on top of that. Some of them didn't even get paid for their work.

Sounds like some of our writing sessions.

I like to "produce" or "direct". Ed Wood is my hero.

When I was a teenager, I had three jobs.
The only time I had for stupid sh*t usually had to do with sex drugs and rock n roll.

When I was a teenager I was thrown out of my home by my parents. Suck it up, crybaby.
