Recently Crip and others were posting music from days gone by. I dug up a rehearsal tape of my band Miss de Meanor from 1984; I decided to post one here for your amusement. I'll probably leave it up a couple days and then post another one (there are 14 tunes in all). The tunes are:

Somebody's Watching Me - Rockafeller with Michael Jackson
Holiday - Madonna
She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
Miss Me Blind - Culture Club
Rio - Duran Duran
Only The Lonely - The Motels
Let's Dance - David Bowie
Ain't Nobody - Chaka Khan
Don't Change - INXS
Stand Back - Stevie Nicks
99 Red Balloons - Nena
Girls On Film - Duran Duran
Talking In Your Sleep - The Romantics
Synchronicity Part II - The Police

As you can tell we played mostly female vocal songs that were popular at the time. This was just a typical rehearsal, no overdubs or processing.

I present this as a historical document, warts and all; please forgive the flat vocals, cheesy synth sounds, miscues and blown harmonies. I'm posting "Miss Me Blind" first, check out the guitar solo (I used a Hamer Special through a Marshall 100 watt combo amp).

Enjoy.

That's a good list for '84.
Question: are you using the Strat that's on your avatar on your demos, if so how are you getting the grunge tones out of those pups?

Thanks for posting up some music Jimmy.
Seems like in 84 I was operating a hydrogen sulfide natural gas compressor station out in the middle of the Texas desert.

Long time ago...

Scratchy: No, the other the songs currently my profile were recorded with a 1979 reissue of a 1959 Les Paul (many people call them Juniors but mine is actually a Limited, since it has more than one pickup). I replaced the stock pickups with superwound EMGs some time ago. This is the baddest heavy metal guitar I've ever heard or played.

George: Yeah that was 26 years ago; I went back to school after Miss de Meanor broke up that fall. My daughter was 2 at the time; the economy was starting to pickup after crashing in 1981. We played Wed thru Sat nearly every week and had some good times. Now I do one show a month, but I'm happy to still be playing after 30 years.

I'm just starting on this musical journey.
I love hearing the music, and the stories of how others have gotten to where they are.
Makes the whole thing seem more real.

I have posted the next track "Rio" on my player. There's a little wow and flutter from being recorded on a cassette deck.

Well I know I can't hold a candle to you Paul so I will be very reluctant to embarrass myself. That was a long time ago, I've actually learned a little about singing since then.

Dude, you are a hold out. You need to sing leads on an original. You sound dead on to me. 8)

Ha didn't know you were online. I have another tape of stuff that was after Miss de Meanor with me on lead vocals, maybe I'll put one of those up next.
