My Grandma turns 99 tomorrow! She walks, talks, hears (with hearing aids), sees, sings (alto), laughs, loves, jokes, shops, yard sales, cooks (whatever you want) fishes, and lives in Texas! ... and she has an ipod shuffle (loaded with Merle Haggard!)

Both sides too! My other Grandma lived to 102. This Grandma's father lived to 100. My folks live big time! And to top it off I got the results from my first blood work ever back a couple of days ago. I have a 4.5% risk of heart disease. I should be around for a while. No guarantees of course (accidents, apocolypse etc) but the odds are in my favor to keep trucking!

Most of my older relatives that have passed away were in their late 70's to early 90's. Genetics certainly plays a role in health and longevity as well as lifestyle. I have definitely lived a hard life in many respects and I've had to be a superman to various family members, just to keep them alive. That takes a toll on me. I've had some lousy health issues in the last four years but lately I've felt pretty good as I have learned to eat much better foods for me. People pretty much are what they eat and if you eat crap you become crap, which I was becoming. I strongly recommend anybody to visit a naturopathic doctor to learn what foods are best for you. Of course drinking, smoking, and playing loud music can shorten one's life. Nobody reading this has any of those problems...

God bless grandma. As far as it goes, all you can do is make it a long fun ride. Love often, love much, and have no regrets.

At 99, I figure I'll look like a cross between kitty litter & fertilizer, cuz I expect I'll be cremated.

My family has the octogenarian gene too. 115 is top so far. Quite a few hit 100. I guess the average age of the elderly at our families reunions is around 75-78. Lots of 60's and 70's. several 80's and a few 90's
The old "had I known I'd live this long" comes up a lot there lol.
