The Detroit Symphony Orchestra went on strike this morning after failing to negotiate a new contract. Management wants the musicians to take 30% wage concessions, and the musicians have offered 22%. There's not a lot of sympathy for them here because 14 in a hundred people in this area are unemployed. But we must not allow the orchestra to be decimated; without art we are nothing.

Co-sign Jimmy. I had a friend that used to play with the Zurich Symphony Orechestra. I used to go to many of their shows. I couldn't rub two nickels together half of the time, but it was nice to get tickets from my friend to go see her play. It really uplifts the spirits.

I would be interested to know in what percentile their "wage" falls into in their area.

People are taking a beating everywhere.

We ( my family) are scrimping and paying off our debt ASAP.

My goal ... to owe NO ONE.

Never a borrower nor a lender be.

We should have listened.

Nope. That doesn't work, either, Mike. Someone's gotta pay the funeral director, the crematorium, the memorial stuff...unless you're just gonna fade away at sea or something without anyone knowing you.

Actually, the best advice I ever heard was "Let the check for your casket and burial bounce."

Well we'll see Mike. LOL

It's not impossible. It is very difficult if you, like I, started life thinking Credit was a good thing.
Man when I was single and working in the patch I could cash a $1000 check damn near weekly ( 12-14 hrs a day 7 days a week )
I bought my first new car ( Camaro ) at 18, on my own.
Thinking back ... I could have driven that old LaMans for a long time and racked back enough cash to buy my first home without a loan.
Then get married and have kids.
