You want reality?
Try some BBC NEWS, not much better but a little especially for European news.
Better yet is read the Christian Science Monitor.
And Even that isn't 100% by far.

Every new media outlet is biased. Objectivity has been thrown out the window in favor of ratings; the news is entertainment now. It's about ratings.
The difference to me is *how* the bias affects the reporting.
I don't care if a news agency leans left or right because I know I'm going to have to check multiple sources anyway to get the whole picture.
What bugs me is when a news agency allows its personal bias to distort the truth. When I watch news, I want the facts, not lies.
I'm Going To Go Off On A Rant Here
FOX News leans right (obviously) but the problem I have with them is that they outright lie and distort the truth through the use of sly television antics. They spend the bulk of their time promoting lies (particularly in very veiled ways that are designed to dupe the less intelligent).
Take Bill O'Reilly, for example. Not long ago he put up a FOX News "poll" that showed that 60% (not an exact number, but it was like that) of the people who responded said that Obama was Muslim. (The Poll is biased itself, of course, because only FOX News watchers are going to respond to it, and 90% of those people are right wing).
The disappointing part of that particular poll was that after he showed it, there was no additional commentary or context from O'Reilly. He didn't come out and say anything like, "Just goes to show you how out of touch Americans are with Obama and the facts." He doesn't say anything like that.
Instead, he just presents the poll - a very sly and *indirect* way to perpetuate a lie. It's a very crafty way for O'reilly to perpetuate a myth.
O'Reilly can't come out and say "Obama is a Muslim" because he knows it's not true. But he can present a poll that shows that 60% of his audience *thinks* Obama is a Muslim. And without any counter commentary to point out what idiots his audience members are, he is able to perpetuate the myth and keeps the right wing echo chamber fearful of their own leader.
And of course, I get to witness this because I have relatives who live in that echo chamber. I have an aunt now telling me, "Obama wasn't born in America" because she saw it on FOX News and read it in The Globe. Nevermind that it's not true.
That's the power of an idea. Forget if it's true or not - once you present it, it takes hold. And the people running FOX News know this. They don't have to present the idea as their own - they don't have to lose direct credibility with their audience. They just have to say, "Hey, this poll shows that 90% of people who watch FOX News think that Obama was born in Kenya. Conclude what you will from that."
It's that kind of news "tactic" that I find disgusting and the reason I won't watch FOX News in my house (meanwhile, too many of my relatives do, but that's their problem).
Finally, a thought on BBC
BBC is a world news agency. It's not an American news agency. Now that I am engaged to an American who has lived in Germany for the past 21 years, I have a new perspective on America.
We live in a bubble, us Americans. We think we're all that, but we don't pay attention to how the rest of the world perceives us. At least a lot of us don't.
When Bush was running our country, we lost a lot of reputation points with the rest of the world. We lost credibility. The minute Obama was elected, we got a lot of that back.
Perception becomes reality. The perception of America under Bush was that we were an ignorant, war-mongering, fear-inducing nation. Bush didn't do anything to counter that. And Cheney certainly didn't help the situation.
Under Obama, we're seen as a cerebral, thoughtful, progressive nation. We're viewed as an America who righted a wrong, got rid of an idiot leader and is starting to rebuild its credibility with the rest of the world. We've elected a black leader for the first time in our history and passed comprehensive health care legislation. A lot of European nations already have universal health care; they look at us and go, "What gives? Why don't you help your people more?" Now they see us passing health care legislation under Obama and say, "Hey, that's more like it. Welcome to the modern world."
Anyway, my point is this: if you want to know how the rest of the world see us, watch BBC.
Personally, I try and get my news from a lot of places, and I try and hit factcheck.org as often as possible, because the simple answer to all of this is that everyone spins. The right-wing news agencies seem to be better at it and outright lie more often, but everyone is skewing the truth to some degree. Your best bet is to be proactive in getting your news instead of sitting on your couch and letting it come to you via your favorite echo chamber.

The one that gets me is how Fox will say something about all the scandals going on in the Dem party, while showing clips of ppl who they disagree with who have no scandals going on. They did this to Al Franken more than once, & I think it's sleazy as hell. They make a lot of things look like an innocent accident, when they do these cheap shots at ppl.
Or the clips of Obama while they talk about terrorists...
Very cheap shots that promote disinformation in the minds of millions of viewers. Whatever happened to respectful, accurate reporting in this country?
The media has polarized us far worse than even the politicians have. It's gotten to the point that as soon as someone starts talking about a news item, I start laughing inside...

Phil,
Have you seen this?
"We live in troubled times, with real people who have real problems. ... Problems that have real but imperfect solutions, that I believe 70 to 80 percent of our population could agree to try, and ultimately live with. Unfortunately, the conversation and the process is controlled by the other 15 to 20 percent."
http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/09/22/avlon.jon.stewart.rally/index.html?hpt=T2
I totally agree with that by the way. The conversation - our political discussions in this country - have been hijacked by the radical and extreme 20%.
And that is what tires me; that's what makes it difficult to engage and be a part of the process. I'm tired of extremists hijacking the conversation and turning the discussions into shouting matches between radical points of view.

The news organizations did a poll, checking themselves.
ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, - ALL the major networds participated in their own polls.
.
The news organizations, after testing themselves with their own polls showed a 87% LIberal Bias.
.
Or in other words, 13% pro republican, 87% anti republican.
Not surprising, seeing as the reporters and journalist went to Liberal Arts Schools for their education.

Yes, Colors. I'm thinking of attending. DC ain't that far.
RM - liberal bias I get, but that's no excuse for the blatant misrepresentation of ppl that FN does.
Btw, getting a degree in Liberal Arts doesn't equate to having a liberal point of view. LA has nothing to do with political slants in any direction.

Want a breath of fresh air? Try watching "Huckabee". I'm not gonna say it's any less biased than other shows, but it's a lot more pleasant to watch, seeing as how Mr. Huckabee knows the basic rules of civility and expects his guests to know them, too.
Plus, there's "Huck's hot seat", where liberals come in and grill huckabee. Nice change. I'd like to see Bill O'Reilly get interviewed once in a while.

It's not bias folks, it's propaganda; propaganda keeps the charade of bias intact.
There is no difference between dems and repubs, if there were things would change when the party in power changes... notice they never do?!
The only thing you'll see on American mass media (state TV) will be things to keep you distracted from connecting the dots.
TRY thinking simply and just look at the overall picture =
the food is poisoned = pesticides
the water is poisoned = fluoride/pharmaceuticals
the air is poisoned = corexit/heavy metals/industrial waste
our minds are poisoned = religious and racial bigotry/hate
the rich are richer and the poor are poorer and steadily getting more so.
THESE THINGS ARE NOT EVEN QUESTIONED. OUR FOREFATHERS WOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR WHOM THEY SHOULD HANG!!!
READ YOUR HISTORY: start with pre WWII Germany... amazingly similar to current USA!
tHEN FASCIST ITALY/RUSSIA... same pattern over and over and over and over..............
or just stay distracted with who said what and who's on first and get more repeating history!
BTW have you seen the faked Iraqi air raid footage done in a studio by CNN?

You must have missed O'Reilly on Jon Stewart's show and vice versa. All O'Reilly was concerned with was the fact that Stewart's book was heavier and selling more than his book. There is a movement to have Fox News declared not a news channel; this would prevent them from attending White House briefings, etc.
Yeah...that's the spirit. If you don't agree with their viewpoint, "declare" them something or other in the hopes of silencing them. The "movement" was nothing more than certain administrative officials (like white house chief of staff Rahm Emanuel) trying to demonize Fox beacuse they are critical of obama's policies. Don't like the message...shoot the messenger. What happened to the First Amendment rights of Fox news commentators? Oh that's right..."they aren't a real news organization" so we can ignore their rights to say what they believe....and we'll keep them out of the white house briefing room so they won't ask any more of those pesky questions about the out of control spending in washington, the failing economy or Michell's lavish trip to Spain at taxpayer expense (at least partially.) After all, we have Rachael Maddow (left wing lesbian commentator on MSNBC) to guide us through the darkness into the light, so what do we need O'Reilly for? How 'bout Keith Olberman (also MSNBC.) Think he's not biased in his reporting? Most of the people who criticize the programs on Fox rarely watch them...they're just echoing what they read or heard somewhere else.
