No, I'm obviously not a bot. I heard about this company through Music Connection, so I've been checking them out for about two weeks to see if they're legit. I saw feedback from other people giving everything from praises to naises.

What it is, if you're an artist, or you have a song you want to submit for a opportunity, it costs money, but these opps are pretty good and unless you know someone, you aren't going to get very far. If you don't know anyone, this is pretty good.

Today, I submitted for a record company ad, a management and two music licensing companies. The nice part is other people who have submitted will give you feedback on the company. I'll keep you posted. Me, I like the idea because it cuts down on the slush pile. Two of the companies I submitted for had feedback and the other two didn't have any because I guess they were too new.

It seems to be more for promo opps, but there are people there offering to give you professional feedback and for say $5 for the opp and $4 to MusicXray that's $9. It beats the $15 for most opps that Reverbnation charges.

So it's your call, you can check it out or ignore it.

If anyone has had any positive dealings with them, post them here.

Okay, got my first feedback.

The guy said "Little Peace of Heaven" was boring and doesn't go anywhere. He's just not into the song and that he doesn't think it would work for tv and film.

Oh well, can't please everyone. On another note, I should have checked this guy out before I submitted. I googled him and he was a former DJ and looking at his credits, he's more into electronica, rap and so on, so no wonder my song was boring. My song is more laid back and guitarish. Not making excuses for it because it can come off boring. I will be checking people out more indepth to see what artists they like and what kind of material they accept.

I'll see what the others say. I submitted different songs for different things. The others may be on the level.

I'm posting my experiences here so people can get a feel on how to approach this.

I would have been a lot nicer for a lot less money....

If you're needing feedback in a bad way I can see the point of doing this, it's just that there's so much of this out there.

"Professional" feedback means nothing to me. I've read various commentaries by music "experts." The only real experts are everyday folks who come out to hear you play and provide instant feedback by their enthusiastic response or lack of it. Run your tunes by an audience of your peers for FREE or better yet, run your tunes by an audience of your peers at a paid gig. Did you know that commentary and dissent have now combined to form dysentary?

You and I have that in common Bob.
Although I appreciate the feedback I get from other players here. And sometimes even act upon suggestions. I realize that you guys are artist and will see my work in your own way.

More important for me is if my family, friends, and especially our audiences enjoy what were doing.

Means more than a self proclaimed professional critics opinion.

I do understand why someone would seek out critics with a shingle up.
I just prefer mine to hoist a phone .

Ever hear of paralysis by analysis? You could analyze something to death, literally. Songs either sound good or they don't. If a song doesn't sound good work on it until it does sound good. Can't make it work, try another song. Playing it in front of an audience of everyday people is the real acid test of a song. Having some highly educated music authority critique your songs won't tell you sh*t. I've had arguments with band members over tunes in our repertoire. Since I've been playing in bands for thirty years I'm an expert, right? I can't tell you how many times we performed a song that I thought sounded awful and the people loved it. I quit critiquing our songs and let the audience decide. After all THEY are the ones that will pay you or not pay you.

No, I didn't submit for professional feedback, I submitted for a Film and Television Licensing Company. I'm trying to get my music licensed. I agree, his feedback sucked ass, but hee hee I offered him some feedback of my own, which I can do. I'll be checking these people out more thoroughly before I submit to opportunities.

I guess they feel they have to bitch(give an opinion) if they took their precious time to listen to something they decided not to use.

I wonder if these people can get someone a snippet on X Games, that would be tight!

Sans, it's for work straight up, that's all I'm interested in from these people. Work. They either like the song or they don't. I could do without the feedback, I don't need it.

I have a very corporate mentality, get to as many people as you can and keep going until somebody says yes. That's what I learned in sales.

However, as we can see some people can't just tell you, "thanks, I'm not interested," they have to give you a swift kick in the ass on the way out.

Whatever, right now, these "paid for" opportunities are the best I can do right now until I can actually meet some people in the business.

I've submitted to some Reverb opps, I'm interested to see what comes of them.

I had a meeting with a bass player this weekend I met from musiciansconnection.com. Great guy, professional player. To me, his feedback on my material means more than some twerp who got lucky. This guy has played with all these different bands, named people in the business and he thinks our music is great enough to play for a little less money than he's used to getting. I appreciate things like that very much. I'll fight for a guy like that.

Well it has to be better than Revenue Nation... man they send me about $100 worth of opps a week. They're makin a killing off of musicians and songwriters!

Good Luck!

I know, that's why I've been very laid back with them. The only thing I do like about them is the profile looks much more professional than Myspace. Myspace is more for friends and fans, I like Reverbnation more for professional instances.

I submitted to two opportunities there, many of them are back East anyway. I'll see what happens.

I don't mind every paycheck jumping on an opp here and there. The nice thing is you get in touch with people many people wouldn't have the chance to. One you get your foot in the door, it gets fairly easy because it just adds to your resume.

The thing that hurts me is my resume is so old, it's almost worth for me to say I've never done anything because I'm too embarassed to say many times.

I believe there are still art oriented producers out there that are more interested in the music and persona than the eye appeal or current trends.

at least I hope there is :!:
