I live in Hagerstown, MD, have an excellent drummer (I play guitar). We've been looking for a bass player and a guitar player for months. I finally ran accross this web site and thought well I'll give this one a try. I contacted about 12-15 people hoping for a response. Low and behold "2" remember that "2" out of them contacted me to express their thanks, but at this time they couldn't take me up on my offer. These "2" I truley thank for taking time to at least respond back to me. I can't believe that the others can't even take the time to respond even if to say they're not intrested. If the situation were reversed I would feel the right thing to do would be to at the least repond. Common courtesy. Thanks for the time.

No matter what people say over and over about musicians, playing out for an income is a job and therefore when a musician is contacted it means a potential hiring. It irks me when people apply for a position and then when contacted won't reply. Why did you waste my time and yours?Yes,you may have already found another job but if that didn't work out you also blew it with the group that probably wanted you.It happens in any job....

Heh, I've been having trouble with non-responders since i decided to finally step up and give music a shot for real.
So far most are non-responsive, then it's the "promises" people (the kind that never come true), then finally a band to play with!

Then what happens?
For one reason or another, things fall apart anyway!

To be honest, I'm a bit discouraged from time to time, but I'm still kickin' it and waiting for my moment to shine lol.
It's all anyone can really do, unless their born into money or something like such...

Anyway, good luck to all of you, and jam on! :)

One sure way to get into a band, is to own lots of equipment, especially a great PA system. We had some less than talented musicaians in some of our early bands. What talent did they poccess? A rockin' PA, lol! So if you're a good player AND have a PA system, this should really help get your foot in the door. But this does mean you have to have some start up money, or go into debt up to your ear lobes. I guess having money does help.

Now wait one darned minute here, we are talking about musicians, right? Are you saying that you have found musicians that are undependable and lacking in common business etiquette? I am shocked. :-) Perhaps you are experiencing that which has caused many of us to leave the music business as a profession.

Like cats, they are hard to herd. Like children, you have to love them for their good points. Like bad love, you have to know when to let go.

If you will move to Spartanburg, South Carolina, I'll be your bass player. :D

Thanks, Alan, but no. I have a great job (complete with company car), a great boss, a beautiful home and lots of good musicians to jam with. Why would I want to leave heaven?
