Tomorrow is the first day of fall, my favorite season. Bon fires, apple cider and Halloween, what could be better.

Also starting tomorrow, children with pre-existing health conditions can't be denied health insurance.

Young people without insurance can stay on their parents policy until they're 26.

And people with catastrophic health conditions cannot be dropped by their insurer.

If none of these things affect you, great. But remember, things can change. For example, the Republicans have vowed to undo these reforms. Think before you vote this fall.

Aye, Jimmy, that would be nice. We need healthcare. See, I've lived overseas, I've been part of socialized medicine and it's nice not having to worry. Many people here don't know what it's like which is why they criticize it so much.

I love this time of year too. Last week, I bought pumpkin pie for everyone from Sam's Club. Needless to say the pie lasted only two days.

Christmas and Christmas bonuses! Yay!

The governor of Minnesota has just signed an executive order to block the reforms in his state. Why? To attempt to prevent health insurance premiums raising on his constituents. The joke is on him; the carriers will raise them regardless. And to deny children with life threatening conditions health insurance is a death sentence for many of them. This is criminal in my mind.

Oh jimmy! You opened a huge can o' worms for me.

My son's ins co, AETNA, has demanded proof that he is Jace's biological father, cuz they won't insure a foster child! What kind of sick sh*t is that?

Ian's name doesn't appear on the boy's birth certificate. There was a DNA test done, but he doesn't have it, the boy's mother does, so he'll have another one done.

Personally, I would LOVE to see the insurance industry destroyed, & replaced by the gov't. Take all the profit out of health care, for anyone not directly involved with that care! Why should investors reap profits from anyone's unfortunate medical needs? This is a f*ckin' SICK society, imho.

yeah, that'd be great, except the government doesn't exactly have the best track record on running stuff now, do they?

also, to set things straight, all those things you mentioned as the republicans "undoing" are included in the republican's health insurance overhaul proposal. check it out here: http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare.

What the republicans are trying to get repealed is the mandated health care, on the argument no-one should be forced into buying heath care.

I agree with that position, being the far right-wing nut job that I am. Oh and, by far right wing, I mean actually conservative, not republican. My political beliefs actually fall on the right side of the spectrum, unlike them.

Abortion? Valid medical procedure.
Gay Marriage? Why does the government need to be involved?
Marijuana? Government shouldn't care.
Any other social issue? Government, once again, get out.

Economics? Government should get out, the worst of the problems arise when the regulation is half-assed, and half-assed is all congress ever does.

lookit me goin on tangents. I might expand on my positions later.

I'm so sorry for your troubles Phil, I hope things gets resolved properly. I'm so sick of the right demanding tax cuts for the rich while taking away from the poor. Don't these people have a conscience? And why shouldn't people making more than 250K pay a little more? A real patriot would, gladly.

Yup ... it's feeling like winter, up here already. Had snow on the mountain passes ... eek. Send some of your global warming this way ... we'll take all we can get.

On a side note, a mountain near us (13,000 ft) never lost all it's snow this year on the sunny side, first time in over 20 yrs.

Good riddance, summer.

Costs money for socialist medicine.
It woul be fine. I'm for it, but this country is all but bankrupt.

I think we need a St. Judes model, partially.

P.S.
I posted my first thing ever to Stack Overflow, Jimmy.
I was elated. Then... Deflated.

In the town I grew up in we had a local clinic that had about 4 doctors in it that we all knew, and you went in and waited about a half an hour for one and he took care of you or sent you to someone who would.
My thought was why can't we have a series of these though out the country to take care of our basic health needs. It's a scandal that we have as many uninsured as we have in a country as rich as ours is. And it's because of the medical lobby and the insurance lobby that something as simple as this can't be done.
Obama should have tried harder for single payer, but he did something that no-one else has been able to do....he got the ball rolling even though no-one will be able to afford the premiums they are proposing anyway.

And it makes me crazy hearing all these idiots fighting in favor of big insurance and medicine.....doing the bidding of their oppressors.....

One of the things that the Democrats have been woefully deficient at is PR touting the BENEFITS of the healthcare reform. There IS a lot of good in the reform bill. There is also bad. Instead of an effort to repeal the entire bill there should be an effort to retain the good portions of the bill and repeal the bad. Not only that but those that are talking about repealing everything have NO PLAN of their own to replace it. That's the biggest thing that is wrong with our current political climate, the enormous chasm of polarization. The attitude of every politician these days it's either my way or the highway. We can have a much more effective government if we look at what's good in each bill and keep it, and get rid of what's bad. But unfortunately this current polarizing bunch of idiots (on both sides of the aisle) are making the chasm wider and wider. What we will end up with is NOTHING good for everybody. I say we desperately need a third party that looks at EVERY issue in a pragmatic manner and does what is BEST for everybody regardless of whether what is best is deemed liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. I also would like to see states have the ability to decide issues in their own state, instead of having to go along with every other state. I see nothing wrong with states voting on hot-button issues such as abortion, capital punishment, laws dealing with illegal immigration, etc. Sometimes I think of running for an office. I would run as myself, no party affiliation, just to possibly get my two cents in for anybody interested in listening...

You guys talking about another one of those population control schemes?

Civilians vote and it means nothing anyways. These judges and polititians should be in Pelican Bay for life.

I could spend all day attempting explain how all this " free medicine " is going to ruin everyone's health care, from an actual care providers stand point.

And honestly ... I have tried.

Now you'll just have to find out the hard way.

Enjoy your delusions while they last.

You will be sorry.

It's not "FREE" Sans, even in Europe, you have to pay. The problem with America they don't want to contribute to the pot of a socialized system because all they can think about is communism; however, Europe as far as I know isn't communist. No one saw England, France or other parts of Western Europe go communist because they have socialized medicine.

Another problem is, all I hear is screaming and crying about immigrants and welfare recipients. There needs to be reform, but people only see things in black and white and can only think about people who are abusing the system. Welfare these days is very hard to abuse, it's next to impossible unless you live in a house with 20 people and they're all collecting welfare and pooling their cash. The only way you can abuse welfare and drive a Cadellac is you're involved in some illegal activities to go along with your food stamps which involves drugs. Maybe a long time ago, but not now.

Sorry but immigrants aren't going to stop coming. They're here, they're in Europe, everyone whines, but no one realizes is the big corporations are the ones which brings them here. When I was in Switzerland, it was the Tamals and the Turkish. In France, it's the Africans and the Middle Easterners. So that's just something we have to deal with.

Every time I think about our politicians, I can't get Louis Black out of my head.

"A republican stands up and says 'I have a really bad idea!' Then a democrat stands up and says 'And I can make it shittier!'" Then you have the teabaggers who act like a bunch of beggars fighting over a biscuit. They don't want to pay taxes but then they're the first people to start crying when there are no social systems for when they lose their jobs, their roads fall apart and they get sick and have no healthcare. They're fine as long as they have some money and think everything will be rosey as soon as they kick out all the immigrants, charge 10% taxes and abolish welfare. Talk about a group who reminds me of the Quakers in London who beheaded Charles I. Yeah, they took back London and didn't know how to f**k run the country after they got it. WTG, suckers! Guess who was back in business shortly after? Charles II and everything went back to "normal."

I'd like my politicians to grow the f**k up and stop acting like a bunch of little whiny first graders on the playground. She took everyone's toys! He hit me! I'm giving everyone free candy! You don't have any candy!

The next son of a bitch tells me he's going to get jobs and not raise taxes, I'm gonna egg them if I'm in the vicinity. STFU and do it, asshole. When I watch a debate, I want to hear not only what you're gonna do, I want to hear HOW you're gonna do it, I want to hear a plan. I never hear a plan or how anyone will bring this about. They sound like your methhead friend who promises to always pay you back. Riiiiight!

Nobody has a f**k clue, a f**k plan or anything. Everybody wants utopia but they don't want to pay for it. They expect it all to come about for free or with 10% taxes.

Dig, if I had a government that charged me 40% of my wages, but I had good working roads, a transportation system where I didn't have to drive my car everyday, if any of my family got sick, I knew we'd be taken care of without worrying our insurance company would let one of us die, recycling natural resources where we didn't have to rely on fossil fuels so our utility bills would be next to nothing, there'd be no sales tax because it would be included in my regular taxes, housing was affordable. People would get incentives for WORKING. Where if they lost their job, they could do like community jobs and get the same medical benefits and such until they found a steady job.

It's a shame I enjoyed living in Switzerland more than here. I feel guilty of it sometimes. But it was clean, they recycled, I could walk, I could ride my bike. Heck I wanted to work because I made a lot of money just working at a bookstore and I got 6 weeks vacation just starting! I don't want to go back because I believe the US should be like that, minus the on the fence waffling they do over everything and how miserable they are - I think things are too good for them and it's a protestant thing, but I believe we should be just as innovative. I heard the same thing about Iceland.

That's my idea of change. It may not be popular, but that's what I think.
