Hey guys!! Long time no chat !!

How the heck has everyone been??

Question for ya!!

Would you consider me an "Average - American Idol" singer??

There's a certain band in my zipcode that is looking for a "general, background vocalist" -- I stopped in at auditions for this band about 10 months ago and the guy took my name and number and said he thought I was good and he'd call me --

Well, he never did call -- He's been trying out other vocalist ever since -
Then I was informed that this person said the above statement about my singing...

I would like your opinion plz -- Don't only make your conclusion by listening to the tune I have posted on this site -- but also visit my myspace site -- All the players on my page are of me and my variety of vocal ability the site address is:

The main player has a rock/metal tune -- which is the project I'm currently working on...
Down further is a podcast from my garageband site...with an original song that my brother wrote....
and the last player has tunes off of the Demo CD we recorded for the last active band I was in -- MISSBEHAVIN'!!

Ignore him, I just had a listen and have to disagree, I think you have a really good voice and I particulally liked the one you did with your brother back in the 90's

If it's any consolation I was told recently that I sounded like a cross between a pneumatic drill and a crow with laryngitus

Tania, you know how I feel about your voice. You're awesome girl! Ignore that guy. What does he know? Keep working on what you're doing now and forget that band. You're too good for them anyhow! LOL

I've been in the biz for over 20 yrs.... and I've never been told that - and actually, that's not the impression I got from him when he heard my vocals....

I just wanted to see what everyone else thought!!

It's also irritating to me in a way because.... It's a small town that we live in.... and musicians are hard to come by -- and the fact that he still searches for another singer is confusing to me...

I'm more than capable!! Maybe I'm over qualified !

Come on Sis? You know how good you are. One of my vavorite Vocalist period, Let alone, A very good friend. Your just as good as any of the 'Lady Diva's'. And very versatil, You like different styles of music, & wont be chained down to one style only. Besides, In my observation of American Idol, They only put 1 or 2 good vocalist in competition anyway. Its all about the money, TV ratings, etc. Sorry I havent been to your myspace for awhile Tania, I've tried to get there a few times lately. It takes so dang long for your site to download on my computer. Thats why I keep only basic backgrounds, etc. on mine. You lose alot of hits with certain backgrounds because of slow downloads. I am going to buy software and create my own website, Its all part of the buisness I'll get to your myspace sooner or later Sis! (Luv Ya)!

Average? No! You should be fronting not backing. You have a great voice. I know all about the small town thing also. I've been looking for a voice like yours in my area for quite sometime.

I know, I know V & B.... but, I guess it never hurts to double check though!! I think I'm asking for other's opinions is because he still persistantly searches for others.... and I guess in a way, it helps in reassuring me --

You're right Mike!! I should be fronting a band, and I have many times - As I said... more than 20 yrs of experience..... but, I have been stuck in this small town trying to get something going for a few yrs now.... so, even to be a background vocalist would have been okay for awhile... until / or if I could get something together myself... know what I mean?

Anyway.... this guy is now a "newbie" to this site -- and I've been wondering how that's going to reflect on me also!!??

SORRY my myspace page downloads slow for some ppl..... I have a little bit of stuff on it.... but not too bad... not near as much as others have!! And I do take stuff off and switch it up once in awhile!!

You have a good voice. Nice style, and good control.

Something else is going on.

Possibilities...

1) He feels your vocal style doesn't match their music

2) He's looking for a different image or personality

3) He has a very set preconceived vision of what he wants

4) He's an asshole

Ok I didn't read your initial post properly about him just wanting backing vox!!

That's where the problem lies. He could see you are not a backing vocalist and although you probably said you don't mind doing it, he probably thought you would get bored doing it quite quickly and knew you would leave at the first oportunity which would mean he would then have to start looking around for someone else, so just decided to keep looking for someone who would be happy doing it!!



Not sure why he made the scathing comment about your voice though. No need for it and maybe he was just jealous..Who knows!!

Nothing wrong with your voice. I give it a better then average. If anything, my vote goes to you being over qualified and out of his league. That either intimidated him and he responded foolishly or, since you are hearing of his response second hand, there is a loss in translation in which case don't rush to judgement.
