Sorry Craig, on my wifes side the Jeromes and the Allertons actually came here in search God on a little ship called the Mayflower that landed in Provincetown Cape Cod.

As far as my family I can only trace it back to a contract killer from Finland that left as quickly as he came. He came for profit. I guess that is why I have so much enthusiasm for people making money. That was only 90 years ago.

So you are right and you are wrong.... BUT .... you are wrong even though you are right...... Twisted world huh.

I just want to retract one thing I said in haste last night.
That was about better places to live. Everything is relative to the persons, stature, well being and location, so it doesn't matter where you live, you're view of it is compounded by what you are in that particular circumstance.

Anyway. I had a great trip on the ceiling fan, and as stated in an earlier comment, it was cheaper than a fairground ride.
Have a wonderful labor weekend, everyone.

Best.

Chippy, If you understand me better you will understand the one basic belief I grew up with as a young boy.
This is America, IF YOU WORK HARD AND YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE RISKS, there is no limit to what an individual can accomplish.
What the individual can accomplish can only lead to the betterment of society and the world in general. You can argue the negative side [nuclear weapons] or you can argue the positive side,[penicillin ,aid to Haiti, etc, etc] I think the positive side far out ways the negative.

However my greatest anger comes from a government that throws road blocks in front of people trying to become successful. Go back and reread the part about how important the individual is. [out of that comes a truly great society]

It is ridiculous to have any form of government that condemns the wealthy and at the same time limits the poor from becoming wealthy.
Suddenly it has become wrong to make too much money in AMERICA, and as your government we can't have any individual becoming to powerful because of Hard Work, and a willingness to accept risk.

My greatest wish is that everyone in our great country have the opportunity to achieve whatever form of wealth they desire, be it Music, Family, religious beliefs,Security, or Money.

Poke fun at me if you want to, but if you fail to rise to your highest goals than you have let down our society, and possibly all of mankind.

"This is America, IF YOU WORK HARD AND YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE RISKS, there is no limit to what an individual can accomplish."

This could be said to be true virtually everywhere, not just in America. Better to say "This is Earth. IF YOU WORK HARD AND YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE RISKS, there is no limit to what an individual can accomplish."

Take my words out of context and destroy or lessen your own hopes. Instead of arguing for your limitations you should be forging forward on all the wonderful things our country has allowed, the opportunity to rise and become a great individual.

Glen are you ok?
I'm a fully Super Dooper naturalized Chippy being, I don't wear blinkers, and understand the scenic and flowery hypothesis of words.
I really don't understand your point at at? First you go on about people come here to better themselves, then argue they don't work hard enough?

I remember my welcome at Newark. "Stand over there!" I think he was having a bad day too. Good job thick skins move quickly, and have long memories.
Tusk, tusk, but a mere joke. :D

Not to continue to stir the pot ... but.

I could not disagree more Phil.
There are ways and means for the few privileged and the fewer lucky in other parts of the world.

If it were true we'd not need an army to guard our borders from those who would steal to take advantage of our blessings instead of having integrity and working for it.

Glen, I'm just saying that America may be A land of opportunity, but that doesn't mean that it is THE land of opportunity. There are opportunities to be found LOTS of places on this fine planet. We don't have an exclusive on it.

I'm not arguing FOR limitations. My argument is that there are far fewer limitations to be found throughout the world than you seem to think there are.

And, unfortunately, the way things are going here...our opportunities are quickly going the way of the old frontier...greener pastures & all...I'm thinking maybe Canada (EEEK!)...or Costa Rica...or Europe (GASP!)...or even Jamaica (I love the food!)...

Just baiting ya, man. I know I should prolly quit doing that...but it's FUN!

sans - the sad fact is that we are far better off than Mexicans in their own country. That is true. But we seem to only compare the rest of the world based on what we see there. Things aren't THAT bad elsewhere...

There are lots of Americans flocking to Canada. Does that mean they have it better than we? I'll bet they're bitching about the huge influx of American illegals stealing their health care, like Palin...LOL
