I like this!

I'd like to hear some comments on this one.

It hits my ear almost like a Motown thing, yet the content is rather incongruous. It's like it's at odds with the genre. The basic idea works, yet the use of more...hop-hoppish?...language either ruins it, or makes it.

Is this a work of comedy? A mere novelty song? Or can it stand as an actual song? I think it's certainly catchy enough.

It has the classic structure of the 60's soul hit, save the rather abrupt ending. I think it should have either faded out, or come 'round full circle to the simple piano intro.

Your thoughts?

This from a guy who starts off so many posts with "WTF."

Not picking on you, sans. I'm just saying that the language of the average American has become rather used to the F-bomb, &, whether or not you're willing to admit it, that includes you, sans, with your not-so-innocent allusion to it, so frequently.

That being said, I still contend that this is a pretty cool song. It shows the lyricist's frustration in a common, everyday way, & yet still manages to sound like a happy, friendly tune.

Is this what you can see for the future of pop?

Cee Lo Green has had one helluva lotta hits on this song, & I'll bet that there are a lot of ppl that'll be singing along...

I take no offense to your statements Phil.
I am well aware I have a foul mouth. Not something I am proud of as I consider it poor communications and it gets me into trouble on a regular basis.
Makes it all the more offensive to me being one of my own shortcomings as a man.
Thus I condemn and avoid as much as my limited will allows.

Very easy to recognize that with which we personally struggle.

But...but...morality issues aside - what about the damned song?

I had a listen and I'll get out the way, song structure and all, very well done and obviously from England because they looooove that sound. And hubs and I were cracking up because sometimes there's nothing you can say but FU sometimes and I've said this a lot when people piss me off. A well placed FU can be quite therapeutic and it soothes the soul.

I knew right away he was industry. It smells like industry (industry is those songs you hear when you go to pitch your material to the A&R guy and he in turn has to play a project he's working on -- usually impeccable songwriting structure, weak lyrics and otherwise just lame), and my suspicions were confirmed when I recognized the voice as the guy from Gnarls Barkley. Well, they got away with "Crazy" and this song is a hell of a lot better.

The music is still good, on each & every one of them, & if you alter the lyric to make it radio-friendly (like Cee Lo is doing with that song, calling it "Forget You"), it takes some of the sting away.

"Crazy" was Gnarls Barkley's first hit. Danger Mouse is a producer from New York and Cee Loo is a rapper from Atlanta. Danger Mouse produced the Gorillaz Demon Day's release. They were smart, they went to England and got signed. They definitely hooked up with the right person.
