I have no idea what's going on, Glen. Too many 'shrooms? (j/k)

Chaeya - I'm listening to your stuff now.

Sheer Force Of Will - your voice is like a cross between No Doubt's Gwen Stefani & Cindi Lauper, to my ear. It lends itself to fun, upbeat rock very well. (Have you ever covered any Jane's Addiction? It's in your range, but I dunno about the style.)

Little Piece Of Heaven - I really appreciate how you don't use that modern R & B scale warbling in every song. You do have a solid rock approach to every tune. With the right material, you would kick some serious butt. Plus, you have a fine look about ya.

Yeah, I'd work with you in a heartbeat, though I doubt I'd be able to look you in the eye very often...

C,

You have a very interesting and distinctive voice.

I would love to have a voice like that to use on some of my own stuff like Funky Bee, LOL

Keep up the good work.

With your looks and sound you should be able to make a name for yourself. And hopefully a career!

Good Luck

You have a really nice set of um...a.....vocals. I like your vocal style. The problem is not with you. The backing is so trashed up with far too much going on all at once all the time. No instrument separation.

It reminds me of a jam session that I went to years ago. A violin, a fiddle, a mandolin, a piano, a bass, and a couple of guitars. Everyone played ALL the time. No one knew when to just F^&&* shut up. When it came time for an instrumental, they all played on top of each other. I don't like to say it but the mix reminded me of of that type of clutter.

My favorite guitar player always pointed out that LESS IS MORE when it comes to instrumentation. Don't cram it down someones throat, rather leave them wanting more. Make each instrument shine in its own time. That would get rid of a great deal of clutter and let your vocals dominate without having to boosting them.

When I record something, my tracks are always full of guitar licks. Then I go into editing and kill almost all of them, even when they are my favorite ones in the song. Seldom, but occasionally I do clutter a song after adding a second lead track to something, but editing in the future will clean most of them up. I really never finish a song. There are always things I want to change later.

Try eliminating a lot of the clutter in your backing tracks. Leave a bit of space for the bass to get out front with a few licks occasionally, or the lead, or whatever. Make it interesting. You could play off occasional far left / right bits of instrumentation for wide field effect in your mixes.

Listen to some of your favorite recordings and see how uncluttered the backing tracks really are. Listen to how the featured instrument gets the space and the others back off during its time to shine. Model your tracks after the style of really good producers that you admire. That always helps.

Thank you!

Slacker, I know it all sounds like a garble of gibble at the moment, the songs aren't yet properly mixed, we're still working on it. I should have waited before I posted the songs, but then I gave in to pressure, thanks Glen, me love you long time! A lot of it will tone down and settle into the background once I get the right mix and the mastering done.

We have been in the studio listening to other CDs as a guide. We're also changing some stuff based on the suggestions from our mastering guy. All the tips you brought up, we actually had gotten from our mastering guy last week.

Very good points.

I'm clueless, oh well.

Phil, I just wanted to say I hate that R&B warble. Oh, you don't know, how I can't stand it. Sorry, I come from the era of Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Chaka Kahn. I can't get into that "hey let's take a note and turn it into the world's longest waterslide." What sucks is now all the pop singers are doing it too. And they go flat, all the time. Not everyone has an Antares pitch corrector when you're doing it live. I was at the Dodgers game a few months ago and they got this pretty little thing to sing the National Anthem acapella. OMG, how bad is that to stand there and do that in front of a crowded stadium. Geez.

I disagree with everyone saying the guitars are too busy. However I am a guitar player so I must admit I am a bit biased. I think the sub melodies the guitar is creating under the vocal melody lends itself to a very unique sound. I especially liked "Sheer Force Of Will" I also Liked the more pop sounding "Little Piece Of Heaven" you really bring the listener into the mood you were in when you wrote that piece. I felt Happy after listening to it! I turned your songs up in my office and ate lunch listening to them. They made my day BETTER! Thanks for posting them MORE PLEASE!
