I'm the only person I know that uses this site, personally, so I dunno how the rest of the world sees it. I like it.
I don't see that much in the way of "unprofessionalism" here, but I'll admit we sometimes seem to be a bit wary of new ppl either selling things or offering opportunities. Ppl coming here often get put on the defensive right off the bat when they're offering things, & that may be a damned shame.
A better approach for them may be to take it a bit more slowly than to say "I have something really cool," or " I can help you" to do this or that, right off the bat when they 1st come into the forums.
It's a 2-way street. If someone came up to me in person with a great idea, I'd probably be just as wary & ask just as many questions, & if he came up short on those questions. I would most likely believe he was fulla bulla in r/l, too. And let's face it - how many "opportunities" do any of us really see in our o/l travels? There's a million of them, but maybe one is a good one...how do you separate the chaff?
We watch for spammers, hold ppl accountable for the things they post, & ask questions & investigate them as best we can given the limits of our abilities. When something doesn't add up, sometimes we jump to conclusions, but that's only because of the massive amounts of fluff that's out there waiting to get our hard-earned dollars, or pass a virus onto us, or simply waste our valuable time.
Salesmen & such need to take a much less aggressive approach with ppl who've been burned, or nearly burned, in the past. Get to know us. Develop some sort of rapport, just as you need to do in r/l as a salesman. We don't go for the old used car salesmen stereotypes in here, or ppl with grand claims right off the bat. And it MAKES GOOD SENSE.
