I just came home from watching Phil perform. It was incredible-and by that, I don't just mean the musical end of it. Given the rare occasion to see one of my Bandmix mates perform, I simply couldn't pass it up. And I wasn't dissapointed. Phil is a true music journeyman. Although, I had some "insider" info about his insecurities, I have to say, he performed like a pro.
It wasn't just the music that made this experience so incredible for me, though. I've talked to Phil for a few years now online, but like so many of you, have never got to meet him in person. After, their first set, I got an oppurtunity to catch up with him. I barely got to introduce myself before he shook my hand heartily and struck up a conversation. It was like meeting an old friend. Phil is very personable and down to earth. I think, altogether, we got to talk about twenty minutes, but that in itself was worth the hour drive one way. We talked briefly about doing a show together, and I certainly hope that materializes.
Not to get all mushy, but it certainly reminded me that there are a lot of good folk on here that I want to meet in person: Paul, Craig, George and Bob-just to name a few. I want to see you guys perform. Even though it would have been great to get on stage with Phil tonight, I think it was made better by the fact that I got to be an audience member-not only did I get to understand that background preparation (being a musician myself as well as talkng to Phil previous to the event), but I got to simply sit back and listen...and be amazed.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my feelings about that, and push a little harder for some kind of convention, where we can all get together and jam out. After all, that's why we all gather at this weird little virtual watering hole...to quench our thirst, and because the flavor is so undeniable. :D

p.s. I'll post pics tomorrow!

THanks Joseph6. THis is good to hear. A convention of some kind would be outstanding. I almost had the opportunity to perform with HaleAmano ( sp? ) but that concert was cancelled...I look forward to something happening soon. I wrote Mike Huckabee about us twice. I should do it again real soon. 8)

Joe that was a great post. I know you two live in WV but it is a big state.
One thing about Phil is he is not a guit trying to play bass. He is a freakin great bass player. HUUUGGGEEEE difference.
Joe , all respect to you , thank you for going out of your way to support ,another great musician.

You are a GREAT guy for doing this. Funny how no matter much you disagree on BS issues it comes down to being a friend.

Oh by the way,, I said ANOTHER great musician, I have to learn not to write between the lines.

Thanks for sharing this Joseph.
I have had the pleasure of meeting two of our BM comrades.
It was great getting to meet Billy in person break bread and talk. Putting a face and living personality with the on line experience.
Also seeing Paul perform as you stated from an "audience perspective" was awesome. I was already a fan but seeing him do his thing gave me a deep appreciation not only of is musical skill but as a performer.
Strange how a night out to a small Coffee shop in hicksville Texas could be a defining musical experience for me.

Truth be told I am quite antisocial. A polar opposite of the quintessential gregarious musician. These meeting take me way out of my comfort zone.
And that is a blessing.

I would love to meet some Bandmix members. And even jam with them if possible.

However no one will ever come to Sioux City Iowa. This town has a Biblical history. The origional name of this Iowa city was : "Eli Eli lama sabachthani" translation: My God My God, Why have you forsaken me"

If you look back for musicians while driving from Kilgore to Longview you will be turned into a pillar of salt.

Then be used to make margaritas.

At least I THINK I got your last name, so I'll look you up if you're listed (I'm not...no land line here).Or you could e me...the info's available, if you aren't still a pay member.

Personally, I thought the whole thing was kinda...I dunno...not the greatest.

It was certainly an experience to remember, though.

Great to meet you. Let's talk more soonly.

And thanks to everyone for the kind words!

Joseph,

Phil is a professional con man, so, of course he seemed congenial and friendly when you met him... well... when you met him at this... "first" meeting, that is. Phil is actually a foreign double agent, who speaks 6 languages fluently (including Arabic) and can make high quality military mortars with only 3 coffee-cans and a Swiss army knife. He is a trained assassin! You don't think anyone THAT liberal would actually "choose" to live in West Virginia do you? He is a plant, sent to recruit American musicians, and strip them of their talent and creativity, thereby robbing the world of the only thing powerful enough to save it... "Good original Music!" - This secret Russian project began with Pat Boone, many decades ago... continued on with The Monkeys all the way forward until the present day, where the most powerful sleeper agent ever, for dismantling meaningful music, was finally awakened... None other than... Lady Ga Ga!

His "second" meeting, will be where he asks something seemingly innocent, like... "We should JAM sometime!" - I can see, he is already on step-2 of your recruitment program. But by "JAM" he really means: J.A.M. or... Jihad American Musicians!"

Step-3 will be him inviting you back to his house, where he allegedly wants to share his home-made micro-brewed beer with you! But when you go, THERE WILL BE NO BEER! THERE WILL BE NO MUSIC! There will only be a group of trained assassins, who specialize in GENITAL TORTURE for compliance, and it is only then, my naive friend, that you will learn the true meaning of his little secret organization... the one that they call... "Stick-Masters"

You've been warned! 8)

But seriously... awesome post! I love hearing about when BM'ers are able to get together in the "real" world. Sounds like a good gig, and I already knew Phil was a very competent musician. Hopefully someone got some audio or video... would love to check it out!

Wish more of you guys lived near me! :-(

Looking forward to the pics!

Congrats on your performance Phil! :D

You say that you wish people lived near you so how can you judge!
Anyway Craig my Master.

Yours. The Chipfryer.
