yeah I knew he was Jewish but I didn't know about his parents. That is crazy. I couldn't imagine the stories they had. I am also the same way about heroes. I met alot of supposed top acts in nashville and I was greatly disapointed.

I dont' know why I mean I know they are only human but there demeanor outside of teh stage was just appauling. I guess that is why I just want to do things on my own terms. I would hate to get up in the big leagues and find out my heroes are all assholes lol.

I am not a very knowledgable man on things. The words I use as far as faith goes are just that. They are what I believe in. I to should have died MANY times but for some uncanny reason I guess the big guy upstairs likes me and I don't know why.

I hope that what I speak and what I do is of the truth and if it isn't then hey lol I gave it a shot at least lol thas more then what others do lol. I don't know if any of you are into Graphic novels but one day I was in a writing slump and I decided to go back to my child hood and read some comics to get some renewed inspiration.

I found this one called PREACHER and no it's not what you think lol at all lol. It's a bit horendous actually. It's like watching a Sci Fi flick only it's about a Man hunting down god because god has left his thrown. Has a wonderful story line and the main character in the story once you get further into the series isn't as bad as you would think.

It's a must read for those who like good action and a great story. AGain I repeat it's not religeous propaganda lol I think New Line is going to make a movie about it but i'm not sure. I haven't heard anything on it in a while.

Anyway i'm going to take off. The wife is pacing so hopefully soon Little Eli will be making an appearance on the center stage soon lol. I am so stoked!

Later!

With the music industry constantly growing I can't help but think that everyone and there freakin mother that is in the business is getting over. I mean they get in trouble but they never REALLY get into trouble.

How can people get to such a high level that just because they are who they are they don't even get a speeding ticket half the time. Here is the funny part though lol. What about all the guy's who work behind the scenes? Since they make majority of the money within the whole Pie scale I wonder if they always get tickets or if they are known as well.

There is no telling. I guess if I pulled over a freakin gold plated porsche carerra He had to be someone famous lol.

I guess the point of this is the same thing I have said before. The media makes everything happen. They convince people to stay in side and watch fake people on TV cause our own lives aren't interesting enough. Then people bitch about americans being overweight. It always reminds me of that zodiac sign the fish eating the other fish.

We have these constant circles of contradiction going on. Like you have to watch TV in order to have someone convince you that you should not watch TV.

Anyway that was just something I thought about while holding my newborn. I couldn't help but wonder how different is my son compared to a famous person's son? There was no difference I could think of. My wife went through the same amount of pain. I held her hand. I also but the chord between our baby and his mother.

In this past few days I have done more then alot of those fat cats up at sony or mcs but yet I will always get speeding tickets. I will always have to wait in line.

ya know I wish I could do that. It drives me crazy inside because I love hard rock and heavey metal up to death metal. Nothing like some Napalm Death to get the blood flowing BUT I can't write that way?

How come the music that I like to listen to I can't write lol. I guess in this conundrum it's the fact that I can't play it that intrigues me. The style i write is a more soulful style. I always work on the art of story telling and not just blabbering a bunch of nonsense.

I admit that some of my favorite bands just blabber but I never listen to there lyrical content I always seem to focus on the music they write. Even if the words mean nothing if the music is good I really don't think it matters.

For instance the classics like BACH. You don't need lyrics to feel what he is saying. It's all right there in front of you. I have never seen anyone play a classical piece before but I bet it's one of the most beautiful things you could ever see. There is nothing but a Piano and a human being conveying there deepest thoughts out onto paper in the form of notes.

I wish I could do things of that nature. My stuff just kinda drags out somewhat. Every now and then i'll get a good one but it's so damned hard. It's almost as if I have lost focus on what i am trying to do.

Now since i just said that I wonder if those that I hate such as britney spears and all those crazy bastards if they are doing a style that they can just do on command while they actually enjoy another style?

They say that the beast of the industry does that to people. They tell them what they should be doing instead of letting the artists be free to choose. Of course that is with any job you do. No one is going to let you do what you want to unless you prove that you are good at what you do lol.

Well anyway i'm going to go. I got some blogs and shite to write on myspace. Talk to everyone later.

a couple of years ago they came out with the Guitar hero package. I am sure all of you have seen that on TV. Well I have guitar hero 2 and it's an alright game but it doesn't have alot of decent tracks.

Alot of the bands on there aren't even together anymore. Well now that everyone has seen how well it is everyone wants on the bandwagon. I wonder how many artists are going to be on guitar hero 3 that were asked to be on guitar hero 2.

Everyone wants to make that quick million but they hardley but themselves into something they believe in. I"m not saying that it's wrong to whore yourself out every once in a while but eventually you have to put yourself into something. Everyone dreams of rocking out with there favorite bands and guitar hero has that appeal but they have a bunch of songs from bands that aren't even together or they are to old to tour anymore.

I'm just saying it sickens me when people whore themselves out that way. Also the other thing that gets my goat is that they didn't use the original artists to do the tracks. Everything sounds like sh*t on there lol. The music is tite but the lyrics are horribly done lol For example mother sounds like a mix of elvis presley and scott stapp on steroids. f**k retarded.

I generally agree with most of this stuff, but not this.

When I was younger and walking 20 miles uphill both ways in the blizzard to get to gigs, we went to see concerts because the classic rock people COULD ACTUALLY PLAY. There were some gifted super talented people on that stage. They didn't need fancy special fx and smoke and mirrors and glitter and spandex and stylists and choreographers. They knew that they could play awesome music and they knew we wanted to hear and see how they played it. The truly hokey image-based stuff was mostly on TV and never made it to our state anyway. Instead we were paying $5 and $10 bucks to see Zeppelin, ELP, Kansas, Yes, Chicago, Edgar Winter, Pat Metheny, Skynyrd, Heart, Weather Report, the Eagles, and Hendrix opening for Steely Dan! Nobody remembered what they were wearing or what kind of fireworks display they had (because they didn't have any fireworks) but everybody remembered the hot licks and superb musicianship they shared in every note of every song. They loved what they were playing, and so did we.

Sure, the labels had to make their money back, but they did it by finding some of the best MUSICAL TALENT around, and putting forth the best sound they could possibly capture on tape and pump out of house PA systems. If you ever met some of those talents face to face, you knew immediately that they were not in it because of their stunning good looks. In like manner, if you ever jam with Britney or Madonna, you'll know immediately that they are not in it because of their awesome musical abilities. There is a reason why nobody has ever heard them sing a capella!

The average music consumer is not a MUSICIAN.

When you look at all this from a musical purest perspective.

Well it like me watching UFC.

Yes very physically talented well trained fighters testing each other for 10 to 15 minutes. But what happens if one of em gets kicked in the balls or a finger in the eye? Are they really ingaging in "combat" no. Why ? Rules.
Why rules? Money. No one will pay $50.oo for a ticket to see someone stick another guy in the eye, in a three second fight. LOL

In the music industry what rules?

A few things worth mentioning-

First, My idea of a "poser" is not only someone who isn't very good musically, but someone who also sits on their couch bragging about how great they are. Most 'posers' never take the initiative or have the follow-through to accomplish more than opening a bag of potato chips and watching rock of love 2, dreaming about the day they get to have their show, choc full of drunk sluts.

The 'posers' the OP refers to aren't really posers at all, the Jonas Brothers, Miley, etc.. all have an adequate skill level to play whatever they need, combined with a work ethic that would kill better musicians.

Sure, there's a lack of depth, increasingly so, in the popular music scene today.

But think about this:
You go into a bar, and want to entertain the crowd, do you play a 24 minute prog rock song with a 7/8 time sig, or do you play sweet home alabama, and other songs like it?

Well, if you want to play there again, you play sweet home alabama.

Using rush as the example, which is my favorite band, I can play every song they ever wrote verbatim.. but do you think I pull out YYZ at gigs? Not on your life. If that's selling out, well then I think 95% of us 'working' musicians are selling out. So be it.

I didn't read through the entire thread, maybe later, but I did want to address the OP and offer a different perspective - You play what the demographic wants to hear. If you want to play what YOU want, well then you are more than capable of doing just that - play all you want, but don't go gigging and expect the world to bow down to your phat skillz .. cause people identify with simple 3-chord melodies, and if you can't play what they crave, well ....

It all kind of reminds me of the movie 'Idiocracy".. but it's a sad reality - the common man is getting dumber. If you choose to get paid to entertain an idiot, or a group of idiots, you are getting payed to play idiot music.

Now I was speaking about cover bands.. originals bands.. well thats a whole other post.. but it's no secret why the jonas brothers are megastars and Porcupine Tree (a prog band I like) can't achieve the same fame.

LOL ROCK OF LOVE 2../ Guitar Hero package. Same Laugh..

Now where are these places that keep insisting on SWEET HOME ALABAMA/FREE BIRD?

And why would you want to play that venue? See Below

Are you in it for the $? You are probably going to die broke..

Are you in it for the fame? Chances are you won't ever see any at all.

Are you playing for the love of playing? Then tell that establishment that you don't play it and do your own thing.. If they don't like it, find a new place you want to play.

Is there only a few bars where you are???!!>>??!?!?!?

I tell more people NO and don't even bother to give it a second thought.

Then again, I play because I love to, not for fame or money.
They mean nothing where I am going.. LOL (smell of smoke and hot oil)
