Been attempting to get my Gateway up to speed again, my printer is the present task. I have located the appropriate driver again for my Windows XP / HP C5180.
However after I down load and attempt to initiate I get a message that said it does not have access to my registry.
I turned all the protective stuff off as instructed and still no access to registry.
WTH ??
How do you allow access to a registry ?? ( laugh if you must )
Anybody ?? :?

Are you installing from a user account and not an administrator account? That might do it...

I don't remember the details from your recent malicious software issue, if you didn't completely reinstall Windows, you might be forced to due to issues like this. Quite often the recent malware blocks access to the registry. Clean it out, the registry is still blocked.

Don't make me come over there... :D

click Start then right click My Computer, the click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Cick on the Harware tab.
Click Device Manager.
click on you little computer picture at the top of the list so that it's hilighted.
click the Action menu, then choose scan for new hardware.

It will probably recognize your printer.
After that look for it in that tree of stuff where your little computer picture is. Click on the pluss sign to expand the tree (list).
If your printer is in there, hilight it, click action menu, choose Update Driver.

Select Install fom a list...'
Select 'Search for the best driver' at the top.
Checkmark 'Include this location'
Click Broswe.

Find where your driver is downloaded at.

That's good news. At least it means your Windows account has permission to access the registry. Now the question is, why the driver install can't. Could be a conflict between a system reset you might have done after the virus thing. It could be the new driver isn't compatible with older Windows settings. Making sure your Windows updates are all current might solve that problem. Unless you're using the original driver from your printer disc, in which case the driver might be too old now. The best way to deal with any problem like that is to make sure first the Windows updates are current, then go to the printer's web site and download the latest print driver from there.

Nah, just do what I said.

I agree about the updates, but the sound thing isn’t global, only in the browser. I’m assuming he has sound in windows? Certainly he’s played a track or something since posting that problem? If so, then it probably isn’t a driver or hardware issue with the sound hardware. Since it 99.99% of the time wouldn’t work at all.

Sans I don’t know if you saw this in your other thread, but if you are using two sound cards, one internal/one external. Switch your audio properties to the internal one, in order to listen to stuff in the browser (refresh the web page after you do, or you still won’t have audio). If the audio is routed through the OS you’ll have the “show speaker in system tray” option. If you can get it to that point, then it should solve the browser/sound problem.

On my external if I have it as the windows default I get the exact same thing. When I switch to the internal SB, it all works fine.

He said he already had the driver. I was trying to break it down for him step by step.
Keep it simple.

Good luck guys.

Okay, I'm no expert, but if you click on "Internet Tools," then "Widget Finder," you'll see a little graph of your schizmos. Once you're there, it's really easy to adjust your flatulent driver, by simply adding the butt plug routine from your Gilbertine Plus-Flux, which you can find on your original Folded Map Drive. From there, it's a simple point-&-click to your Flusher, which may solve your problem, as long as the float doesn't stick in your toilet.

An alternate fix would be to hit "START," & go to your Control Flannel, & see if you have a loose thread. If so, then you have a more serious pregno-virus, which probably put a hole in your Trojan Condomizer. I'd suggest switching to a Ramses Ribbed one, if that's the case, but only after a thorough D & C routine using the Roe-v-Wade solution.

In some rare cases, you will find that you have Mel-Ware, which brings up random anti-semetic or racist remarks in your text, which can tend to be very embarrassing when you're sending that email to your rabbi, or fan mail to the president. The only solution I know of for that is a .357 Magnum Driver, applied with an Anti-Gibson routine, which can be found at www.idunnowatdafukimtakinabout.com .

If none of the above works, then you probably have a Cookie-Monster virus. The only solution I know is the generous application of Tahini to all the connectors in the back of your computer. (Tahini is a sesame-street-based substance with the consistency of peanut butter. It'll make your machine smell like humus, if you add chick peas.)

Good luck!
