Sans, they probably think your nuts only because there is so much New Age stuff out there describing positive vibes as in such ambiguous terms it sounds like some sort of magical and mysterious thing.
The fact is, it's neither magic, nor as mysterious as many seem to either believe or thing others believe it is. It's a very simple concept if you really think about it. Smiles are contagious. Most of us know that. So is anger and disenchantment. It's WHY they are contagious that a lot of people misunderstand. It's not because of some weird kind of energy from the physical Universe. It's simple human nature.
People who cultivate good moods and positive attitudes, NOTICE others doing the same. You're not really attracting such people with some mysterious force. You're just noticing them more than you would if you keep telling yourself "This sucks! Nothing ever works out for me." When you put on a negative cloak you blind yourself to the hundreds of positive people around you. You can actually repel them, because they may not want to become influenced by your negative energy. They may just be careful types that know if they join you in your pity party, it'll get them on a negative track, and THEY will be blinded to the positive people and energy all around them.
This is exactly why I think many who prefer to remain positive (especially people like me who used to dwell on the negative and no longer want to), might tend to react with strong words toward whiners and complainers. I know in my case, it's not just the complainer I'm talking to. It's ME!
So if I tell anyone else to quit being a baby, it's not just them I'm talking to. They are strong words meant for me as well. I don't want to get sucked backward into that kind of self destructive thinking and behavior.
This is well said SP. Negativity is easy to sink into and it is easy to allow others to bring us there. AND it is just as easy to be positive and bring negative people up. That's why I love hearing about the successes that are experienced here. They are damn uplifting, indeed.
