Fair enough.

Tronix wrote:I think the better idea would be to meet them in a non musical environment, before you give up the location to where you rehearse, if you can tell they are scum, treat them accordingly.

Yes. This really does seem a good idea. Tweakers or not, there are enough dishonest people responding to CL ads it's best to protect yourself.

Pick someplace public. Well lit. With lots of people around. You know, if they refuse such a meeting, doesn't that tell you something about them?

Does this seem accidental to you? A coincidence?

It isn't.

Frankly, the problem isn't new to CL.

I remember a few decades ago there was a local music rag (in Honolulu) where people would advertise for musicians. The musicians I knew all had stories about someone answering an ad and then having their studio cleaned out a week later.

No meth involved. Just greed.

The thieves almost never got caught.

I'm not that naive, really.

I got a call from a guy last night, who I'd been playing phone/email tag with.

He is starting a long-distance band, with hopes of touring. He's 35 miles from me, & the 3rd guy is in VA Beach, LOL, which is prolly 125+ miles away. Seems kinda ambitious to me, however, he plays a lot of stuff that I like, from what he describes. With the distances involved, there isn't much chance of too much emotional involvement, anyway. It'd be a nice change of pace.

I'll try hm out. He might even fit into Flamingo Road, if he wants to & is able. Who knows?

Rule of thumb: if it comes to shooting someone, you screwed up long before that.

Maybe that's your only option at that point, but you had options before that.

Even if it wasn't just you that screwed up (and it probably wasn't), you still share some of the blame.

Cant nor wont argue that point sir.

My Sifu taught that a warriors best weapon is intuitive perception.

But sometimes shithappens. :(

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I prefer "We all make mistakes". It's a fine point, but it's important.

s**thappens takes no responsibility.

We all make mistakes acknowledges responsibility.

Something I wish more people would do.

Good point. I teach my sons not to deal in "fault" or "blame" but in responsibility.
Example:
If you walk across the street and fall in an uncovered manhole you cannot righteously sue the city. As an equal part of the responsibility resides within yourself to be aware and prepared.

Most people just think I'm nuts. Everyone seems to want something or someone to "blame".
I guess it's just a natural "human" thing.

"I guess it's just a natural "human" thing"

I disagree. I think it's much more of an "American" thing, due to our recent searches for riches at the expense of anyone unfortunate enough to make a mistake. Just look at all the ads on tv for the former-ambulance-chasing lawyers, or the news reports of class action suits. We have been programmed by our media to think that we can get stuff from anyone who flooks up. Slip on ice on a sidewalk? Sue the owner of the property! Fall in that open manhole cover? Sue the city! Get in an accident? Sue 'em for everything you can get! Spill your coffee while you're driving, & burn yourself? Sue the restaurant for giving you hot coffee! You deserve it, right? Bullspit!

We've become obsessed with being victims in this country, & it's making us weaker by the second. How many ppl get caught faking accidents at stores & other businesses to try to make a quick & easy buck? How many ppl fake OJI's to get workers' comp, while they sit on their bums? How many ppl fake injuries when they have an accident? WHIPLASH! It makes me sick...

Maybe I'll switch jobs...become an insurance investigator...someone needs to stop the crap!

Oh I fully believe that this issue is not but greed. An all consuming sin that is not just specific to Americans. Though we as a culture seem to really embrace it. Just try to watch something on TV that's not glorifying the fruits of evil.

Rounded a corner in the grocery store a while back and saw this fat chick in the act of laying down on the floor. I stood back and watched as she started to yell in faked pain and call for help. I walked up as the store manager was telling an employee to call for an ambulance. I said.
Excuse me ... but don't bother to call 911. I saw this fat bitch lay down and will gladly testify in court.

I did not know a fat chick cold get up and run out of a store so fast.

So, it's partly greed.

But the uniquely American bit is the inability to forgive.

"We all make mistakes" includes the word "all". All of us. Everybody. No exceptions.

Yet we tend to insist on everyone around us living up to some impossible standard of never making a mistake. Worse, people are afraid to take responsibility for their mistakes because the consequences are likely to be all out of proportion to the mistake.

And just when you think it can't get any worse, the people we are least willing to forgive are ourselves.

I see much of this kind of thinking in everyday discussions, politics, religion, etc.

We all make mistakes.

Accept the responsibility. Don't try to deny it. Don't hold other peoples' mistakes over them like a club.

As for litigation: it was always intended as a tool to insist people take responsibility. For some people it became a gravy train. Litigation is not inherently bad. But misusing it - like misusing any tool - creates problems of its own.

Life has been hard, so should I sue my parents since it's probably too late to divorce them?

There is always that self abort option.
Though not recommended.

I have always had some difficulty with forgiveness. One of my primary sins.
( second only to lust and followed closely by greed )
