The inference was OBVIOUS Klugmo, by her saying that the family first believed it was racially motivated... UNTIL... they researched the laws. Why would they have researched the laws (AFTER THE FACT) if the cop was black?

Maybe the only reason why our president has done nothing to secure the AZ border, maybe the reason why Americans are being killed and robbed, maybe the reason the federal laws on the books are not being enforced, maybe the real reason is that he is a racist and he enjoys hearing about another white girl being abducted tortured and found dead.

I believe that EVERYONE here, has made intelligent thought-provoking statements we can ALL learn from... you included. There are things I agree with Sans about and others I don't. I DO agree with Sans that profiling (in certain situations) is NOT racist and is a useful tool of law enforcement.

But that is not what we were talking about unfortunately.

Pulling a vehicle over because of the color of someone's skin (what the family FIRST assumed was the case) is the RACIST type of profiling, that is a VIOLATION of someone's civil rights, not to mention just a HUGE INCONVENIENCE to the MULTITUDES of law abiding black people who have to endure being pulled over FOR NO OTHER REASON that the fact that they were black.

I respect George, and I have come to YOUR defence several times, when I believed you to be correct, have I not? However lately... in all honesty, I believe that you have become more crass and provoking UNECESSARY fights, and insulting others when they had not said anything derogatory to you first.

However, as mentioned before, part of the problem is miscommunication, like when one person is talking about PERCEPTION and the other party thinks that person is talking about REALITY.

Another problem is EXTREMISM, which... damn, seems to be getting MORE COMMON rather than less. People get an idea in their heads, without always considering ALL the facts, and just run with it.

Some things in life ARE black and white, but many things... maybe even most things, are various shades of gray.

Which is yet another reason that EMPATHY is such a powerful tool, and greatly aids in understanding another's viewpoints, and hopefully then, finding compromise with that person... or at least helping a person to step outside their normal parameters so they can get a MORE CLEAR and MORE WELL ROUNDED view of the issue in question.

You want to be offended; why is our govt so intent on classifying us when you get your drivers license ,passport, census answers, etc, etc.

I went to renew my drivers license and when I was asked about my race and I said American , the response was disgusting. WE DON"T HAVE THAT ON HERE! It makes me sick that in this day and age we keep on being a racist nation.
It will only end if we all end it.

I "ENJOY" being proven wrong Klugmo! Because it means I can then abandon an inferior belief, in favor of a more correct one. And the benefit to me (and the hell for many others - LOL) is that I get to be "right" FAR FAR FAR MORE OFTEN, than not, by this simple process.

We're all on the same side, here. No one is trying to renew Jim Crow or slavery, & no one needs to be pointing fingers. The true facts of any given situation are all subjective, to a point. Playing devil's advocate can be fun, but it can also create ill feelings.

I see here, that everyone finds racism to be despicable, & I also see that there are degrees that seem to be dividing the forum. It's not anything to get uptight about.

What you think is worse, what I think is worse...in the end it matters not, really, cuz if we were all together in person, we'd be talking about other things, most likely. nothing rings absolutely true in print. Let's try to remember that.

Wording gets to be a little off, when emotions run high, & this is an emotional subject.

Let's not fall into name-calling & face-offs over semantics.
