I think you are all correct. We all have very different experiences from our world better known as music. J-Haley, my son is like yours, he will listen to hip-hop and R&B like any kid but he will wander off into the world of classical music and I love it when he says something like" Mom, this is the jam right here"...and he's listening to Mahler??? Or when he talks about Pat Matheny or Yo Yo Ma. AND he listens to Ludacriss just as much. In my case, I do have to credit video games in contributing to his musical roundness. He likes the music of a lot of these guys because they made so much music for vieo games...that's been his favorite past time since he was 6 years old. Also I make sure my kids have gone outside of their comfort zones when it comes to music. They've been with me to bars and listened to rock music. This reminds me...I haven't been to the Celtic jam in a long time. I'm going to hafta go. But it is us old farts that have to keep the music playing so it is imperative that we live forever.

I think we are all agreeing that the young are targeted with music
through games and shows and web sites and the influence of their peers.

I dunno

Perhaps it is because like me, many American music lovers have been jaded.
What I'm told is "hip" or "pop" sucks for wind.
And I'm not going to pay $50.00 for a concert ticket.
I don't care who's playing.
