So?
This part applies to any band of humans. And it's about bass players.

I watched it. I knew they were dicks. That just hammered it home.

Burton was a much better bass player than the new guy, but they sure coulda & shoulda treated him better.

Then, didn't they trade him off?

I'm not up on that band, but everything I hear just seems to make them look smaller in my eyes.

No, he quit.
He wanted to get more of his music ideas out.

James and Lars are control freaks.
Or were.
And angry young men.

Do you expect some peace and love types to blaze the trail for that kind of music?

Phil, aren't we all dicks in some capacity? I don't see how that video furthered that reputation one bit, if anything they we're somewhat humbled by the experience...none of that matters if you didn't like every band or artist that was a dick, you wouldn't like music at all.
You can tell me that your favorites are good people, but the truth is you have no idea how any of them are in real life unless you know them, no interview is going to give you a perspective and even when during said interview they say something dick-ish, you have no idea of what lead to that..when someone pisses me off, I'm a dick to them. Am I a dick? No, I'm one of the most easy going laid back people you'll ever meet, but if your only exposure to me was that moment when I was a dick to someone, you'd walk away with the impression that I was a dick. Your only exposure to most artists is at their shows, or during interviews, and shows are a production so none of that is real, and interviews are given by people who's job it is, to get the dirt behind the scenes, they purposefully ask questions in such a way to illicit negative responses, because those sell. Happy fluffy bunny stories don't go over well with the metal crowd.
You may hate the bands music, but you are in no position to judge them as people, we all live in glass houses.

Perhaps you're right, Tronix, but every story I hear about them seems to revolve around their being assholes. I haven't been very impressed with their music, either.

There's a whole slew of ppl out there who think the same of me, too. It doesn't bother me, though.

It was a shame, what happened to Cliff. I'll give 'em that. They just handled it like dicks, imho. It had to be tough to lose him like that.

thats perfectly reasonable, I happen love Metallica, I can't tell you why, but something about their music, moved me from an early age, and still does, I agree with one aspect Lars Ulrich is a flaming dickhead, and since he more or less runs that show, I could see how that would influence peoples opinions, James on the other hand, isn't so much a dick, as he's just excessively jaded, causing him to be a dick to most people..They we're the biggest band of their era, it's hard not to be a dick in the situation, I'm sure Elvis was a dick, I'm sure, the Beatles were dicks, it's all relative..I know if one of my band mates died, I'd probably not be the nicest to his replacement, atleast not while the wound was still fresh like that..having to pick Jason up so soon, after Cliffs death is what caused that turmoil..so if anyones the dicks its Arista records for not allowing Metallica to put the tour off for a while, so they could mourn properly. But then if they did that, "And Justice for all" would have never happened, and that would have been tragic as well..lol IMHO, anyway.
