I watched a show on public television the other night about a ten man band that did nothing but sing (no instruments at all). The band was called Straight No Chaser and I have to say it was about the best vocal harmonies I've ever heard in my life. I mean it was DAZZLING vocals, very entertaining show. I believe they have some Youtube videos out. If you have a chance to see them definitely check them out. Some of the vocals I've ever heard in my life...

Bob, I've watched this special 3 times now. These guys put on a heck of a great musical show - they are excellent.

The closest I can recall before them was "The Association," - but these guys are a whole lot more versitile, huh?

I hope they start a new trend in music - you almost never hear this many harmonies anymore . . .

You guys should seriously check out The Swingle Singers. They do vocal arrangements of classical and jazz pieces that are outstanding.

Todd Rundgren and Joe Jackson used to do acapella versions of songs in concert, four part harmonies, etc.

Rhythm Man, I was hoping you would have found these guys. I know how much you're into vocal harmony. I think S N C started out at Indiana University, a bunch of students who would get together and sing and then began performing at college functions. They are coming to Kansas City in October. I don't get out to see too many shows but I hope there's still tickets for that one. I hope they become big stars, they've got something special happening.

The best a capella I ever experienced live was The Starland Vocal Band, of "Afternoon Delight" fame, believe it or not. They did an absolute KILLER version of Paul Simon's "American Tune" that nearly brought tears to my eyes.

It's on their LP with Afternoon Delight, but to see & hear it live was something else.

Yeah I remember the Swingle Singers & their classical stuff.
I really enjoyed them, too; haven't heard about them in years . . .
What'd they do - 2 albums?
Anyway, SNC is a good act, a unique act, and a talented act.
More power to them, and much success.

These guys, though a great vocal group, crashed and burned when their second album went nowhere. Their hit song "Afternoon Delight" was #1 for awhile, and so successful (album too) it won several Grammys and propelled them to having their own VARIETY SHOW! Which lasted only a few months on-air.
