The spread played a couple of hours tonight. I love playing with my nephews! We played on a pavilion. Pop, rock, country, funk. Covers and originals. Will post video asap! We got 4 camcorders worth. Ought to get at least a couple of keepers out of that. It was a paid private gig for a bicycling club.

Hmmm, a mix of covers and originals. Seems to work, eh? Sounds like a good time.
I remember being in bands where we played 12 originals to 3 covers. I enjoy covers more now than when I was a kid.
Some covers we played...
(Come on) Let the good times roll - Hendrix version of the E King song
Castles made of sand - Hendrix
All for you - sister Hazel
Just what I needed - the Cars
7 bridges road - Eagles (with 5 part harmony!)
Pancho and Lefty - Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson version of the Townes Van Zandt song
Breaking the girl - Red Hot Chili peppers
Don't be cruel - Elvis
chasing cars - snow patrol
amie - pure prairie league
Today I started loving you again - Merle Haggard
El paso - Mart Robbins
Horse with no name - America

That's quite a variety. You can appeal to a wider audience that way.
Thanks Phil! I can't play jazz. I could sing it! But not play it.
Or classical. But the rest I am on board with. I was resistant to reggae but now I'm ready to cover Sky down and recession by the upwardly mobile haleamano!
Dude.. Something tells me you are definitely "the cool uncle".
Good to see you're having a good time Paul. I'll bet it's even rewarding to be able to teach your nephews a few things as well huh. I'm the only musician in my whole family. I didn't really have a relative to show me things. I'm sure you're all having a lot of fun with it.

I've always been the cool uncle!!
LOVE that job!! When I grew up there were NO musicians in my family either.
Man teaching them is bliss! Watching them play circles around me is bliss too!! My 15 year old nephew on the piano make no sense. He dominates at EVERYTHING he tries. Pitching in baseball, basketball, skateboard, piano, school work, singing etc etc. He never played before he started with the spread. He was just good enough to get by on the first practice. since then he has gotten better and better by leaps and bounds. My 17 year old nephew is playing leads and really owning it. It's so rewarding playing with family. I had no idea how much fun it would be.
