I've always wished that my Marshall JCM 900 had white vinyl, but recently on Ebay, I found something even cooler! This guy painted his grill white.

So if I did paint it, what kind of paint should I use cause I don't want to paint my speakers. I also wodered what the grill would look like in red. Maybe I'm going too far?

Anyways, here a picture of it, what do you guys think?

NO !

Paint will destroy the sound permeability of the cloth.
Not to mention anything getting used in the field if it's white wont be for long.
Even with metal grills I think this is a really dumb idea.

Besides, you may want to sell or trade up in the future.

I'm glad you said that for confirmation. I was already starting to change my mind. I think the Marshalls look best as black. And you're right, I might sell it or trade for something else one day too. I just patched up the tears so it looks nice.

Why paint it? If you wanna dress it up, & make it personalized, why not just put in a new grill fabric?

Save the old one, & you can always restore it to brand old condition, for resale.

No prob.

If you want to try a white grill make one and put it over the existing one but don't paint the one on your amp it will destroy the original state of it which may turn out to be a factor if one day you want to trade or sell the Marshall.

Paint a big giant "FOR SALE" on the grill then perform live with it. Might get a better price ^.^

Good idea SirJams.

I've decided to just leave it alone. I would most likely get tired of the grill being white. Really, I've always wanted a cab with white vinyl. I saw a JCM 900 that was white and freaked out. Maybe I'll just buy a white one one day, that would be better than having someone put new torlex on my old one. Then I'll have a checkered stack...haha!

The Marshall JCM 900 1960 Lead cab is too good of a cabinet to sell...unless someone wants to trade me for a Boogie.

Do they make grills with different colors? I was thinking about building my own cab, maybe putting some Jensens in there.

OK, I'll quit bumping my thread...sorry.

And with some basic woodworking skills, it's not too difficult to build your own grille board, save the original and have a cool looking amp. I've considered doing one for my Super Reverb just to keep the original in good shape.

I vote for tie dye too but I doubt if you'll find the grille cloth.

Wonder how long I could keep a white stack clean.
Hard enough with just the guitar.

I saw one of those white stacks up close and personal.
That pseudo-silver grill cloth looks like crap IMO
