Rick James had many talents: singer, songwriter, bass player, producer, performer (live), even actor! He is most wildly appreciated for his songwriting, but what do you think he is most underrated for? I’d have to say his bassplaying…he had amazing chops and some of his basslines are fierce!

I don't think Rick is underrated at all. I still hear many things about him today.

I think Curtis Mayfield is really underrated...but that's another topic.

I like Rick James most as a producer. His work with Smokey Robinson, Teena Marie and Talib Kweli shows his range and talent beyond the stage.
