Okay so I see a lot of threads on most overrated/underated players, best/worst etc. - but here's one I haven't seen - who would you guys say is the coolest / best acoustic guitarist?

I'm going to say my two favorites are probably Phil Keaggy, and Dave Mathews. Everybody that hates Dave M. music - fine - whatever - dude can play acoustic like crazy. And Phil Keaggy - amazing, flat out amazing.

Thoughts?

^^^ good one.

I think Al DiMeola made more of an impact with his electric guitar techniques for the development of Fusion and shred. John MclAughlin too in some extent with Jazz electrics. Paco is just a bad ass with the classical.

I woulda gone with the DiMeola/McLauchlen/De Lucia trio, but there's something to be said for Tony Rice, as well. Michael Hedges wasn't human, so I don't think he can count...that guy musta had 4 hands with 12 fingers on each one!

Yes I know what you mean Phil buddy. I also like the fact that he used all off the acoustic guitar to get sounds you would never think came from one instrument. Very sad when he died.

Roy Clark

Yes I know I've said it before but Roy is a musical hero of mine.
He amazed me even before I was really interested in playing guitar.

Over the years, I hve become very impressed with so many guitarists and I just find them to be awe inapiring. Michael Hedges was one of the. This guy has to be my favorite however. He was inspired by Michael Hedges in his college years.

Billy is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I am honored to the max to be able to share the stage with him. Coffee Break, one of the songs I have uploaded, was composed by Billy and I jacked it and made a flute choir arrangement of it. That's Billy in my profile pic. I luv him.

pretty easy for me I grew up knee deep in bluegrass though and there is something about flat picking.. just love it.

Edit: Didn't realize phil said Tony Rice too.. I think he and I have some musical interest that are quite similar.

Gotta agree with Philby... Hedges was a robot.
