I would guess that in 100 years without a world wide turn around, water, food, air will be beyond repair and diseases will mutate and wipe out mankind almost entirely. Pockets of mankind will refurbish the earth having learned the hard way and finally we will be off to a new begining with a brand new mentality that will never be forgotten.
I think that is a VERY LIKELY possibility brother.
God has shown me that He created the cosmos so vast, because he INTENDS for His experiment to CONTINUE, and that over MILLENIA to come, we will require MORE SPACE.... MORE WORLDS to settle. He didn't spend BILLIONS of years to create us, only to watch us destroy ourselves in a few generations.
But to EXPLORE and SETTLE other worlds... to be given this technology... God cannot allow us to have it, until we learn the very lessons you are eluding to.... that we should CARE FOR THE CREATION and we should CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER!
He cannot allow our selfishness, and still primitive nature, to expand beyond the Earth for now. It would be like a disease spreading throughout the cosmos itself.
Major disasters both man-made and natural, ARE OCCURING and there are MANY MANY MORE TO COME.
I think you are right, that man learns the hard way best.
That is unfortunate, but historically... true.
It will probably hold true, even in this modern era right now. Many problems have gone a long way toward being resolved... like slavery, environmental consciousness, etc... but MANY others are still lacking... like the global aims of radical Islam, or the fight between religionists and anti-religionists, with both sides trying to ENFORCE their beliefs on the other. Even Communism has not been completely settled I fear. Russia has found new oil wealth, and has virtually re-initiated the Cold War. China has found a balance between Communism and their own version of Capitalism, which basically keeps the people economically enslaved (the masses anyway) and has brought massive economic value to the country itself. And now, China and Russia have recently concluded that they need to WORK TOGETHER and find ways of supporting one another. That is not a good thing, if you ask me. Who knows if that doesn't lead to a renewal of interest in Communism globally?
Add to this the fact, that there "IS" rogue nuclear material out there, and likely already in the hands of potential terrorists, who will eventually find the means to make it useful. Our own nuclear watchdog groups, say that it is not a matter of "If" there will be a nuclear device deployed by a terrorist group... but "WHEN".
They believe it is INEVITABLE, not theoretical.
Mankind "WILL" face some very dark days to come.
But as you suggest... the END is not merely the END ITSELF, but the end of one thing, is always the BEGINNING of something else!
