I traded in my 76 Martin D-28 for a new Strat at Guitar Center last night. They asked me "how much do you need for it?" and I told them $1000. They went in the back, verified that it was authentic and not stolen and came back out and said "no problem". I also received a 15% credit off my new guitar, which worked out to about $250. So I only paid about $300 out of pocket. I'm happier than a pig in shyt.

Can't wait to see a pic of the new axe! Maple or rosewood fretboard? Alder, ash, or mahogany body? I ask too many questions...I'll just wait for a pic...

Maple neck, ash body. Here's a link to a picture of it on Fender's site, although mine is an '09.

BTW this is the first electric guitar I ever bought new (unless you count my first guitar, a Teisco that I bought at Topps in 1973 for $70 lol).

Jimmy I dont know if they still do it but a coupel of years ago GC would let you buy pedals and bring them back for equal instore credit within 14 days. I would go get pedals and take them home and decide whether I wanted to keep them. I think I maintained about 400 dollars in instore credit for about a yr and half. I hate deciding on pedals in store cuase even when I can put them thru the same gear in there its just not the same as using them at home for a few days.

You hear a lot of flack on other sites about GC, but in Memphis they are the closest store to me, and I cant say Ive had any bad experiences that they didnt address when I brought it to thier attention.

Im glad that worked out for you.

Post some gig pictures, Im jonesen to get out and play myself!

Yeah I can't say anything bad about GC, they've always taken care of me. You just have to listen to a bunch of crappy guitar players making noise on out of tune guitars.

That's a damn nice axe, Jim! You know...I sent Fender a spec sheet of a custom strat that I wanted them to make for me. After waiting for about 3 weeks, they got back to me and told me that they WON'T do about half of the things that I wanted done, and even after that, the price was $5,500!!! You've got to be kidding me! They wouldn't even scallop the lower horn or step the heel for crap's sake! Those are standard issue things on several other guitars. I also wanted a maple neck/fretboard with no inlays, but with the fancy "F" inlayed between the 10th and 12th frets...they wouldn't do that either.

Regardless...I still love Fender strats, but I'll never try to deal with their custom shop ever again. I've been working with Stormshadow guitars out of the UK and they're getting ready to make me an even better rendition of what I wanted on the strat for just over $2,000 with the case. Completely custom to my specs, better hardware/pickups/paint, ect. for way less than half of Fender's price.

You'll like the ash body as well. My Floyd Rose Redmond model 4 has a swamp ash body and it reminds me of a slightly brighter sounding mahogany. Couple that with your maple fretboard and you have a searing solo machine! Congrats again Jim!!! :D
