Klugmo: In my case, all I've ever done is bend. I've pretty much done everything that you listed and then some. My problem is that I always end up with unprofessional people for some reason and it pisses me off enough to walk away, even though it wasn't the music that I wanted to do in the first place.

I'm a seasoned shredder/thrash/speed metal type player, but have not been able to form an original band in this area because the rest of the musicians around here aren't even close to the level, although I just found a drummer that could possibly do it with some work. I'm talking stuff along these lines here:

So yeah...I've done all of those things just to get out and play shows, and you know what? It wasn't worth any of it...

THEN D You have a delema, Either stay where you are and live a life of musical frustration or move to an area that may have more seasoned musicians around or give up music or take a step back and with both eyes see why all these local musicians aren't good enough for me.

Not a sermon just a thought.

Thanks Klugmo. I've done exactly that. Stepping back and trying to figure out why nothing seems to work out the way I'd like to see it, that is. In this area, people either want to be the next Nickelback (yuck), or the next "bouncy" constant breakdown metal band. Whenever I play my originals to these people, they usually just say that they can't do it, or they try real hard and it just goes in circles. Especially with off-time changes and such that are inherent in progressive/melodic/metal.

If I could move, I would, but I just built a nice new house 3 years ago and I wouldn't want to give it up because I have a family that loves it. My wife understands my frustration and she's actually the one that made me pick up a guitar again about 4 years ago. After hearing the last 2 bands that I've been in (which were both really good in their own right), she'd always ask why no one would chime in when I started playing my originals. And this was AFTER both bands agreed in the beginning to work on my stuff, but never did, so I left both of them because of lack of cooperation. Both have tried recently to get me back in them, but it's too far gone and not worth my time.

Here's another example of a band similar to what I write:

Maybe it's just that they don't think how I do or something. I've already played it all from country to blues to hair metal to classic rock to classical to hardcore, ect. I only play in original bands now, but it'd be nice to do my material the way that I know that it should be presented.

Maybe I bent so far for so long that I broke??? :P

I'm happy doing what I do. And I'm not suffering for it in the least. I incorporate a lot of different genres in my picking. A lot of the time in the same song.
I don't care where a lick or rhythm originates, it's all music. If it makes me happy, it's good. Music is fun. Mix and match is a fun game.

Keep music that way or you pay a big price in the end. You don't have to play jazz, rock, pop, Grunge or country to enjoy music or expand your knowledge. But you can learn something useful from any or all of them. First and foremost, follow your heart and your ears.

Have you heard of "Adagio" by Albinoni in G minor? (Link below)
there are countless versions of it can't remember if I heard one done with a flute, I think the flute lends itself to this beautiful melody.

Warning do not listen if you suffer from depression, the piece is a very melancholic one although I get a kick playing it on heavy guitar.

This was a beautiful piece. I didn't think it was depressing at all.
