Musicians Friend:

If you need ear plugs perhaps your stage volume is too loud ?

That's what I was thinking too. The one band that I was in, the rhythm player would constantly turn himself up through the night so things got too loud because of him. And the last band that I was in it was the bass player that did that. People like that are so unprofessional that they shouldn't play at all. And therein lies the reason that I no longer play with them.

Volume leveling is key. If all the volumes are equal and you still can't hear yourself, then it's your fault and turning up only leads to problems...

Are you talking ear plugs or in ear monitor systems? If you are talking in ear monitor systems the best place I have found is Carvin I have a unit I have been using for 5 years and they are $399.00 but you will want to get some other ear buds you can look online there are a ton of them for under a $100.00 and they are just as good as the more popular ones Shure and Synheiser. I also use a Sonic maximizer with my system it removes any phase cancellation and you get a much better sound.

I guess I was misunderstood...It's not that the band is to loud just wanted to get more info on the earplugs on the big name groups with the lanyard I see on TV or in concert.Something about them being molded to fit and can filter out some of the sound.I don't know how else to describe them.

I use baffled plugs when I shoot that allow me to hear ambient sounds better than I could with standard plugs or muffs.
Not good for music though.
Still ... check Musicians Friend's website. They carry a variety of plugs and you can read reviews to bolster your information..

They're not ear plugs.

They are in-ear monitor systems. Instead of having monitor wedges on the floor you have monitors in your ears.

I have custom-molded In Ear Monitors (IEM) just like the pros. I have a Shure PCM600.

http://www.shure.com/americas/products/personal-monitor-systems/psm600/index.htm

Basically, for in-ear monitoring there are three parts:

1) The IEM - the part that goes in your ear. You can get non-custom fitted ear buds like this:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Shure-SCL2-Sound-Isolating-Earphones?sku=270648

Or you can get custom fitted ones that are molded specifically to your ears. This is what I have. Mine cost $500. I got them from Starky.

http://adcombhs.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/starkey_in_ear_monitor.html

2) The second thing is the wireless body pack. This is where you plug your IEM's into. You clip this on your belt.

3) The wireless receiver, which transmits the audio signal to the body pack you're wearing, and thus pipes the signal into your ears. The receiver gets its signal from an output off the mixing board. You need a mixing board with lots of AUX outputs so that you can send individual mixes to the various IEM receivers, this way everyone can get their own mix.

Does that answer your questions?
