I really think you out to put your solo talents toward changing the coal mining issues you have there, Phil.
From the life philosophy side - youd be fighting evil companies and corporations.
If you dont care so much about that, it would be good publicity for you.

I dont begrudge companies from making money, and maybe you all are desensitized to it in west virginia, but whenever I hear news reports about the messed up working conditions and safety conditions, I dont feel very good about that industry.

Yeah, you wouldn't be yawning if it was suddenly YOUR MONEY being ripped off, so it could be passed out among the lazy and unmotivated!

I know someone, very close to me, whose moral values tend to fluctuate, often based merely upon, whether she is PERSONALLY profitting or not from the deals or transactions being proposed, but... hey... she is my step-daughter, and she is only 10 years old, so I still have hope for her.

I still have hope that YOU will develop a CONSISTENT moral viewpoint as well.... just not ALOT of hope though, cause you're older than dirt, :D and unlikely to change much, without some tragedy befalling you... and even then, I doubt it would change you much. :roll:

Well, there's certainly no fluctuation in your self-righteousness, is there, Craig?

You aren't very logical, though, in your typically knee-jerky & overemotional argument, unless you're accusing me of not paying my taxes. I certainly hope that you aren't making that claim, bub, cuz I won't stand for such libelous attacks on my character. You got that? MY money is passed around & misused as much as anyone's, so you had best drop that argumant, mister.

I dunno & don't care what your problem is, but my viewpoints work quite well enough for me, thank you very much.

If you got some f*cking smarts in that pinhead of yours, you'd see that I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. I was simply pointing out that there ARE different points of view - but that is anathema to you, isn't it? You absolutely cannot allow anyone to think for themselves, cuz you really think you're all that intelligent - that to disagree with Craig is to be either immoral or stupid.

Sorry, but you're about as stupid as your average lazy-assed toothless smelly heroin addict lying in his own vomit & feces, Craig, if you think your ranting will EVER change anyone's mind on anything...& if you really think you're more moral than anyone in here, you have the biggest case of delusions of grandeur that I have ever encountered.

A truly moral man doesn't go around pointing out all the faults of others. He works on himself. I guess you don't have the time to do that, since all you can seem to do is bring up contentious debate so you can attack ppl for thinking wrongly, but I don't have any more time for this sh*t.

You just aren't that important, & you clearly aren't all that moral, either. There's a huge difference between being moral & being moralistic. Get a dictionary & check it out.

If you wish to continue this discussion, you have my email addy AND my phone #, so there's absolutely no reason to continue to clutter up the forae with this stuff any longer, & your attempts to embarrass others & to belittle them in public is just rude.

Zip - if I were nearer to the coal mining areas, I would be better placed to know exactly what's going on to cause it all, & to do something.

There are more issues, really, than the corp's being simply "evil," as I understand it.

Yes, when the law is bypassed, when corners are cut, it needs to be addressed, & co's & ppl need to be punished. That seems to be the case at times.

However, mining is inherently a dangerous profession, & no one can know all the risks all the time. Miners know this, & take those risks.

Many of my relatives were miners at some point, but they live up in Wheeling. Most of the mines down south have been closed, from what I saw on my lil trip a few years ago.

The lady living two doors down had to appraise a few mines, for tax purposes. She told me it was the most frightening thing she ever did, to go over a mile underground & check equipment & such. You & I can't imagine either the working conditions, or the environment that these men deal with for so much of thier lives.

All I really know is that I couldn't do it anymore than I could sit in my wife's cubicle for 8-10 hours a day.

Any gathering of people, musicians and like will bring a variety of everything. This will not stop. This is natural. Except it or move on. Everyone does have a Contact button at their profile if specific musical advise is needed. Otherwise just chill dude, it's all good. Only you control your buttons.

Craig said: "Yeah, ok. Go tell me how many days of threads you see right now, on the front page alone.

btw... Last time I checked, a few days ago... there were LESS THAN 10% NON-MUSICAL POSTS on the front page of General Chat. And even with that 10% there are STILL FOUR DAYS OF THREADS ON THE FRONT PAGE ALONE!!!!

So, you are bitching about topics that consume less than 10% of the threads, even when the front page is so slow that it usually keeps 2 to 4 DAYS worth of threads up, at any one time???"

I took that challenge, & just looked at his recent posts on this front page...

The tea party thread - mainly political, not much musical about it.

The Cheryl Cole thread - he thinks she's hot. not much musical.

The Courtney Love thread - non-musical

The Chely Wright thread - stirs up homophobes - non-musical social commentary

The Chris Brown thread - wife beater, one of Craig's favorite whipping ponies - non-musical

$10 million dollar fraud thread - non-musical politics

The TIME thread - non-musical pro-Palin politics

The Bret Michaels thread - musical

The Killers thread - musical

The Kiersten Holine thread - musical
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other ppl's threads, he contributed in the following ways:
High-fiving Glen - 2
musical comments - 4
scolding someone - 5
bragging or being condescending - 5
gave kudos - 2
was informative only - 6
stirring up Glen - 1
political scares - 4
was funny - 4 times (three of which were tied into political scares, but I put them here anyway)
In addition, there were 6 musical posts that he didn't participate in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Was that 10%?

This is what I found as of 10:30 AM today. I excluded his participation in my posts from last night, as he hasn't seen them.

As far as I can tell, this is truly how he feels about everything:

And so, you want to give the government MORE to misuse?

Is that a strategy? Cause that kind of logic just lacks something, that I can't seem to put my finger.... oh yeah.... it lacks....

SENSE!!!

Of course they do. Anyone's moral code, whether good or twisted, works for THEM PERSONALLY. Or they believe it does, which is WHY THEY DO IT. My uncle (whom I respect very much on most subjects) told me something similar, many years ago... I laughed out loud on the phone, when he said it. He told me... "I have my own moral code, and unlike others... I actually follow mine!"

I couldn't help but laugh out loud, and told him... "How convenient for you... 'I made up my own moral code, and I follow it' - well yeah... how could you not? You made it up for yourself. It's always convenient to make our code of conduct FIT OUR CURRENT BEHAVIORS, isn't it? Usually that works the other way around... where MY BEHAVIOR needs to fit the moral standard.... not have the moral standard fit my lifestyle!"

philbymon wrote:

I won't give respect to the idea of HIGHER TAXES by calling it a "different point of view". We pay FAR TOO MUCH in taxes as it is! It is OBSCENE!!! It is an OUTRAGE!!! And watch out, because it was an over-burden of TAXES that sparked the FIRST AMERICAN REVOLUTION!

But I change people's minds on things EVERY SINGLE DAY! And others change my mind on things too. It's called GROWTH. For you this is about competition, but for me.... it is about TRUTH, and adopting the best set of values and worldview possible. When someone presents better arguments to me, on any given subject... it forces me to reconsider my position, to think far more deeply on it... to consider it from another point of view.

philbymon wrote:

You mean, more moral than... YOU don't you?

Cause I have never claimed to me more moral than ANYONE on this forum. How could I presume to know that? And over the 3 years or more, that I have been on this forum, I have come across quite a few good-hearted souls, who clearly have high moral standards.

I think there are ALOT of good and decent people on this forum.

How would YOU know what a "truly moral man" is?

Seriously. Image

philbymon wrote:

Obviously you do.

You have PLENTY of time for it.

In fact, you have been telling me for OVER A YEAR NOW, that you don't have any more time for it.

But you always find more somehow.

See?

I knew you would continue finding time for it!

And btw... Any thread ABOUT A SINGER or MUSICIAN or BAND "IS" a musically related thread, even if it is about them being arrested or whatever else. Similar to how you will find news of a football player's arrest in the sports pages, whether or not it is mentioned anywhere else.

Now... why don't you go back to making posts (non-musical usually) about things you actually know about... like the baby putting poop on your face, etc...

Cause everyone seems to enjoy those from you, and hey.... BONUS: Then, when you are looking stupid.... it is actually appropriate and doesn't stand out as much.

joseph6 wrote:Okay. I'm just trying to get a grip here. I get online every day, and I go to two sites: Facebook and Bandmix. I go to Facebook to socialize with family, friends and associates. I come to Bandmix for music-related topics, and to socialize with other musicians. So I have to ask...WTF?
I've actually been on BM for a few years now, and I've seen a lot of members come and go to and from the forum. Time changes everything, and the includes the atmosphere at the site. That being said...
About a month and a half ago, I posted some new music, and requested some responses. I posted it in the morning, and came back to check about eight hours later. It was gone, buried way, way down at the bottom of the page. I had received two-three responses, and then it virtually disappeared from sight. What important MUSICAL topics had bumped it down so far? None. It was political discussions, religious discussions, silly youtube vids and boredom breaking non-posts.
I was aggravated, but I let it go. I don't have to be here, and I don't have to respond to any of it. There are a lot of folks on this site that I respect and value their wisdom, and would like to feel that, when I need that input, I always have access to it. Apparently, I just have to bump it myself twenty times a day... :(
Now, it's worse. I posted a question relating to my musical "career". It was almost immediately hijacked and turned into a political rant and a personal attack (none of which had anything to do with the OP-the guy didn't even respond to my topic). Today, Phil posted to tell us about a musician he knew that had passed away...and immediately, the same person (yes, I mean GlenJ) tried to turn it into a political rant. WTF??
I know I'm not the only one upset about this; read Paleopete's response in that thread if you don't believe me. There have been others as well (I do check in daily, even if I'm not posting).
Come on guys. It's out of hand. I personally would never begrudge anyone an oppurtunity to express their beliefs, share a funny story, etc. However, I'm pretty sure that Bandmix is a music site, first and foremost, and, speaking for myself only, A little restraint would be appreciated.
I like it here, but I'm 100% sure that there are actual political forums elsewhere online.

Yea ... joseph6 ... this forum has been wreaked by a few ... but ppl keep adding comments to the rants instead of ignoring the ppl that put them up ... so they are just contributing to the problem ...

This is the only forum that allows this ... and it's getting ruined.

How is the forum "Ruined"?

A forum is a community of people, who have discussions online. Did someone pass a law, that said that you were not allowed to have CONVERSATIONS online any longer? Do you stop talking to the whole family, because your "crazy" uncle eddy shows up and voices opinions you don't like?

Are all your relationships truly that dependent upon, one mere mortal having a different opinion, and not "falling into line"?

Holy Cremoly! I have more power than I ever realized before!
