just for the record you gave Philby a free pass on someone he was just mentioning.

The point about the position of my post should be clear: I checked for responses a fairly short time later (maybe eight hours, whch is a while, but not three days). It was at the bottom of the page. I posted it to get feedback for my music on a music site. Barely anyone saw it

Well, if it was still on the front page, then they saw it brother. Did you check the "views" for the thread? That will give you an idea that alot of people are READING the post, just not responding to it. Sometimes it takes ONE GUY to get the ball rolling though, and then others will follow. I try to do that alot, with guys who have their post out there, asking about their new song or whatever, and no one responds right away. Knowing that people often need someone else to start... I try and start, alot of times, so they don't get left out, and forgotten about. Usually, once someone comments, then several others will follow.

joseph6 wrote:
, and, although I cannot give you percentages of posts that were non-musical above it, I can tell you that it was plenty. Nor can I tell you how many non musical posts are on the front page right now.

Yeah, some days are better than others. I just checked myself, and there might be 30 music threads, and 20 "something else's" - But alot of those are not political either... some just observations or comments, or one of Phil's many "human interest" stories from the back-porch!

I keep tellin' that dumbass, that he needs to write a "down home", funny, colloquial, human interest article, and approach his local papers to run it. This would make him some extra cash, be a marketing and publicity boon, and put his dry wit to good use. Not only that, but I am CONVINCED that he would be FAR LESS ANTI-CAPITALIST if more of the CAPITAL found it's way into his pockets!

joseph6 wrote:
I agree, but then again, hell, Craig, I don't want to read posts attacking your faith, either. If I did want to read that stuff, I'd go to a religious forum.

The problem is, that it doesn't require a THREAD to occur. It happens NORMALLY and with REGULARITY, because we live in a world where Christianity is the new Judaism. It is common knowledge that Christians are stupid, and therefore worthy of public ridicule, with no regard whatsoever, for their feelings, beliefs or common decency. What I am saying, is that it JUST GETS SLIPPED IN, to many of the threads, all the time.

The difference is, that other Christian or Religious oriented people here, have been too gentile about the matter, and generally let the sleights go. I am more of a "not back down" kind of guy. I don't fear anyone, physically or intellectually. So, when I get tired of hearing how stupid Christians are, or Southern people are, or Country music fans are, or Patriotic Americans are, or Conservatives are, etc... I'll take up the cause, post some rebuttals along with plenty of facts to back up my positions, and gee.... suddenly people get pissed off at me, for posting an alternative point of view.

You would think, they would just post more convincing facts, or put forward better arguments, but alas... as too many discover the hard way... it is easier ATTEMPTED than ACCOMPLISHED. So they satisfy themselves instead with VENEMOUS ASSAULTS on my personal integrity and character.

joseph6 wrote:
Call me a dictator if you will, but I don't believe that the anti-Christian, anti-American and anti-God rhetoric belongs here. I don't think that it's perfectly acceptable. The truth is, I don't want to read that garbage-any more than I want to read people disputing it.

Ok, but you won't stop it. And the world has become too politically correct as it is. Personally, I just want a level playing field. People are going to out their personal views here, no matter who it offends, and I want equal rights, where free speech is concerned.

I try really hard to keep it in only a handful of threads though.

Lately Glen, as been more of a RABID dog, then "man's best friend" - LOL - But he has talked with me in private email, and told me that he is just tired of trying to be nice, when so much of what he believes in, as an American is being flushed down the toilet right now, with little debate on the merits of any of it!

He's just f*cking PISSED at where the country is headed, as are MOST AMERICANS quite frankly. And it's spilling into other threads, because what he held in, for a long while, is kind of erupting about now.

I wish he would practice some balance a little more, but I "DO" understand his anger. It's part of what made me write my song "Freedom" recently.

joseph6 wrote:
The hardest part about all of this is right here. Craig, buddy. I think the world of ya, brother. When I came to this site, you were the first guy to offer me advice, and I haven't forgotten that.

Well, you know I have always been a fan of your work, and especially your songwriting. You are a really good lyricist, and it makes me jealous, cause I AM LAZY lyrically. I can write good lyrics, but it takes more effort for me, that the music does. It's too easy, for me to write simple lyrics that gets the message across, and then call the song "finished", when instead, writing more deeply, and more AROUND the point, creates more poetic lyrics, and consequently, more... ARTFUL lyrics.

But I am going to defeat my laziness on this, and YOU my friend, are part of my inspiration to do so!

joseph6 wrote:
That being said, much of my OP applies to you as much as anyone else. Disaster updates, celebrity deaths, religious debates, political debates, the price of rice in China, etc.

Now hold on.... anyone who was an investor in Chinese Rice Futures, would be very grateful, when I updated them on it! Image

But, I can't help some of the Doom and Gloom postings brother. God told me that the world situation was going to decline over a three year period, with each year getting progressively worse than the one before it. I know it SOUNDS crazy, to say "God told me" but... "God DOES tell me" important things once in a while. I listen, so He talks. And what kind of friend would I be, if I didn't at least warn everyone, I cared about?

joseph6 wrote:
I said it at the beginning, and I'll say it again: All I'm asking for is a little restraint.

Fair enough. Particularly where they have no place... i.e. other topics that are unrelated.

But I don't know... I try and make sure that I post more MUSIC topics than other stuff. But guess what? Many of my musical topics go without comment. As do many other people's.

I'm not sure it is correct, to believe that, if the more populated topics (religion and politics, believe it or not) were eliminated, that magically, there would be 50 comments debating whether some famous guitarist had "better tone" today, or 20 years ago.

Zip, I didn't take the hint when you said "a little slow".

My bad.

Glen, I apologize. I'm a complete a-hole. Just tone down the politics a little, ok?

No, Glen. You hate ppl that think other than the way that you think.

Do try to remember that that is one of the things that "made this country great" once upon a time.

Tax & spenders are not thieves. They just have a different view than yours, one that revolves around the idea that "we are all one."

It's okay if you don't embrace that idea, just as it's okay for them to feel the way they feel.

No need for attack. Life in balance requires different viewpoints.

Logical and fair, Craig. And I agree that the "attacks" happen at random sometimes...meaning we ALL need to show more restraint (myself included). I also agree that I don't want 50 discussions about guitar tone. The variety is nice-just not when it overwhelms the original purpose for all of us being here.

Thanks for the tips on the Rice futures, bro.

Yeah, you wouldn't be yawning if it was suddenly YOUR MONEY being ripped off, so it could be passed out among the lazy and unmotivated!

I know someone, very close to me, whose moral values tend to fluctuate, often based merely upon, whether she is PERSONALLY profitting or not from the deals or transactions being proposed, but... hey... she is my step-daughter, and she is only 10 years old, so I still have hope for her.

I still have hope that YOU will develop a CONSISTENT moral viewpoint as well.... just not ALOT of hope though, cause you're older than dirt, :D and unlikely to change much, without some tragedy befalling you... and even then, I doubt it would change you much.
