Okay. I'm just trying to get a grip here. I get online every day, and I go to two sites: Facebook and Bandmix. I go to Facebook to socialize with family, friends and associates. I come to Bandmix for music-related topics, and to socialize with other musicians. So I have to ask...WTF?
I've actually been on BM for a few years now, and I've seen a lot of members come and go to and from the forum. Time changes everything, and the includes the atmosphere at the site. That being said...
About a month and a half ago, I posted some new music, and requested some responses. I posted it in the morning, and came back to check about eight hours later. It was gone, buried way, way down at the bottom of the page. I had received two-three responses, and then it virtually disappeared from sight. What important MUSICAL topics had bumped it down so far? None. It was political discussions, religious discussions, silly youtube vids and boredom breaking non-posts.
I was aggravated, but I let it go. I don't have to be here, and I don't have to respond to any of it. There are a lot of folks on this site that I respect and value their wisdom, and would like to feel that, when I need that input, I always have access to it. Apparently, I just have to bump it myself twenty times a day... :(
Now, it's worse. I posted a question relating to my musical "career". It was almost immediately hijacked and turned into a political rant and a personal attack (none of which had anything to do with the OP-the guy didn't even respond to my topic). Today, Phil posted to tell us about a musician he knew that had passed away...and immediately, the same person (yes, I mean GlenJ) tried to turn it into a political rant. WTF??
I know I'm not the only one upset about this; read Paleopete's response in that thread if you don't believe me. There have been others as well (I do check in daily, even if I'm not posting).
Come on guys. It's out of hand. I personally would never begrudge anyone an oppurtunity to express their beliefs, share a funny story, etc. However, I'm pretty sure that Bandmix is a music site, first and foremost, and, speaking for myself only, A little restraint would be appreciated.
I like it here, but I'm 100% sure that there are actual political forums elsewhere online.

You know Joe , I love the way that sounds. You didn't read that whole thread and right away went to attack mode. You complain when some of this is not musical and then you go on to to complain about me.
I don't think I made light of Phils loss But if you go back you can see he turned this into a political discussion.
By the way ,,, thankyou for being so concerned with my personal losses last year. That was a part of the thread you didn't want to account for.

Thanx for nothing Joe, You are just another one of those people you try to be nice to,,,,,

You're complaining because you had to scroll down the page to see your post? As opposed to it staying, what.... what would have been better? Half way down only? One third of the way down?

joseph6 wrote:

I just checked today, and there are 4 days worth of posts ON THE FRONT PAGE!!! FOUR DAYS!!!! - That is a newsgroup that is hurting for posts.... not overwhelmed by them.

Some of you don't like politics, others hate religion. So what? I don't like Jesus Christ being made the butt of f*cking jokes, by non-grateful self-deified assholes who think McDonald's, the art of Michelangelo, Carlos Santana's guitar tone on Black Magic Woman and the International Space Station are all part of one very, very coincidental accident.

What can I do about it?

Not a damn thing.

But rest assured Joseph that I WILL NOT BE BULLIED into silence, when anti-Christian, anti-American and anti-God rhetoric is perfectly acceptable here. Hell, apparently anti-Country-Music sentiment is fine as well.

Let's all admit what the REAL TRUTH about this is....

"Everyone is free to put down Christianity, America, God and Country Music, but all those who belong to those various arenas, should politely be quiet, and accept the insults, and let them go unchallenged.

Sorry, I'm not anyone's personal pin-cushion.

joseph6 wrote:

Yeah, ok. Go tell me how many days of threads you see right now, on the front page alone.

btw... Last time I checked, a few days ago... there were LESS THAN 10% NON-MUSICAL POSTS on the front page of General Chat. And even with that 10% there are STILL FOUR DAYS OF THREADS ON THE FRONT PAGE ALONE!!!!

So, you are bitching about topics that consume less than 10% of the threads, even when the front page is so slow that it usually keeps 2 to 4 DAYS worth of threads up, at any one time???

joseph6 wrote:

That is a valid point.

Cross-over happens when people let things get too personal. But it isn't just politics or religion which do that. I remember several times when people stalked others, that they had gotten into online arguments with, and chased them across multiple threads, insulting them personally in each one.

But it doesn't usually last long. Everyone calms down, and even apologizes usually, and it's back to status quo.

joseph6 wrote:

But that is EXACTLY what you are doing right now.

joseph6 wrote:
However, I'm pretty sure that Bandmix is a music site, first and foremost

When 90% of the threads here are MUSIC RELATED, what makes you think it is NOT first and foremost, a music site?

joseph6 wrote:

I would bet that there are probably "I Hate Country Music" forums and "Christians are Idiots" forums and "God is a Myth" forums as well.

Musicians have VARIED opinions. We often use our talents to make STATEMENTS... even POLITICAL and RELIGIOUS ones! Are we going to BAN any BandMixer's music if it is religious or political in nature too?

Do you see how RIDICULOUS this gets? We could "theoretically" write and post songs about Jesus, or Obama, or Global Warming... but then.... NOT DISCUSS OUR SONGS HERE PUBLICLY!

Tell me how this makes sense?

Otherwise... maybe limit your advice to the part which was reasonable...

BE MORE CIVIL when possible, and... DON'T LET PERSONAL DISAGREEMENTS spill over into OTHER THREADS, having nothing to do with the original disagreements.

Doesn't surprise me, Glen...I voted "yes" also. How is is exactly that you know about my "size?" Peeking in my window, maybe (wipe the slobber off your chin).

I'll probably keep this battle of wits going, even though my daddy taught me never to fight an unarmed man...

wait for it...

wait for it...

The only thing really insulting about you, Glen, is the fact that you pretend to be a musician. The rest of your "input" is just weak.

BTW, I re-read Phil's post. Now maybe you should do the same. You are the one that brought the gov't. into the discussion. Phil actually clarified that the gov't didn't have anything to do with the post, and asked you to get off your soapbox. You refused.

The one thing that you don't seem to get is this: THIS IS A MUSICAL POST! The whole point of it (that you obviously didn't get) was that I am aggravated about the lack of threads about music (see how it still involves "music"??). While taking note of my attack upon you, maybe you should catch on to one important fact: WHY?
I'll tell you, so there is no doubt. You don't seem to have anything to say about music, which leads me to believe that you don't have anything to do with music, which in turn leads me to believe that you are in the wrong place. For some reason, you think I need to know about your political frustrations. I couldn't care less. I'd rather read about your thoughts on Lady Gaga (insert Fisherman Bob response here), than anything you have to say about Obama. Save that crap for some other forum.

Ah, Craig. You sure do know how to break it down. I'll try to respond (but I'll have to keep going back to re-read your post  ).

The point about the position of my post should be clear: I checked for responses a fairly short time later (maybe eight hours, whch is a while, but not three days). It was at the bottom of the page. I posted it to get feedback for my music on a music site. Barely anyone saw it, and, although I cannot give you percentages of posts that were non-musical above it, I can tell you that it was plenty. Nor can I tell you how many non musical posts are on the front page right now. The point is that as a music site, musical topics should take some precedence.

The strange thing about your next response is that you are basically saying you have a right to defend your beliefs. I agree, but then again, hell, Craig, I don't want to read posts attacking your faith, either. If I did want to read that stuff, I'd go to a religious forum. Call me a dictator if you will, but I don't believe that the anti-Christian, anti-American and anti-God rhetoric belongs here. I don't think that it's perfectly acceptable. The truth is, I don't want to read that garbage-any more than I want to read people disputing it. This is a music site.

The hardest part about all of this is right here. Craig, buddy. I think the world of ya, brother. When I came to this site, you were the first guy to offer me advice, and I haven't forgotten that. That being said, much of my OP applies to you as much as anyone else. Disaster updates, celebrity deaths, religious debates, political debates, the price of rice in China, etc.
Your whole argument for defending your beliefs is a thin veil to cover up the fact that you are guilty as anyone, possibly more so, of spamming this forum with unnecessary (albeit sometimes interesting) posts.

I said it at the beginning, and I'll say it again: All I'm asking for is a little restraint.

Get the f**k off this website ,you don't belong here if you are going to attack musicisians for musical things and then complain when it is about the weather.
