ORIANTHI is on the cover of May's Musician's Friend catalog.

Couldn't fine the cover online, but she is also on the Musician's Friend site, which I linked below.

I went to her MySpace, and was surprised that she had a hit song out: "According to You" - I have heard this song on the radio a few times, but I didn't know it was her song!

LOL,

I posted this, because we were discussing her on another thread, and I was really surprised, when I found out that she was also a singer with a hit song out there!

So, sorry brother, but, I am impressed by her! She plays damn good guitar, and she is a good singer too! It's young-girl disneyish music, but hey, she is a good singer! And she was set to play guitar for Michael Jackson's last concerts too...

This chick has quite a career going!

Met her at the NAMM show about 4 years ago. Very friendly and accommodating. She has gotten so much tighter with her playing and speed. Glad that she is getting air time and recognition. Many artist and guitarists support her like Vai and Santana. I wish her luck. Shredd on babe!

It's cool Craig brother. You already know that I respect you in the highest degree. Everyone has little differences and quirks. I just don't see why she gets all the recognition...other than the fact that she's a chick. Seriously...she's not even half as good as people that I know personally, but she had the big money behind her to get her there. That's why I'm taking the position that I am.

And it's not just her...a TON of bands that are out there got where they are now at because they had big money backing them and buying their way to where they're at now.

And BTW...I'm not bitchin' because I don't have big money...just posting a serious and truthful point.

I get ya brother!

That's why I had asked some of the lead guitarists here, what they thought of her. Most seemed impressed, but you know, maybe it really is more impressive to them, because she is a woman, and they just don't realize they are thinking with that bias in there?

But I think she is well rounded in talent, to play lead pretty well, and to sing pretty well also... and she is not that difficult on the eyes either!

Hahahahahaha! I hear ya on the easy on the eyes part, but...she's really just someone else's ball & chain when you think of it. There's someone out there that has had enough of her and...well...you know, man. On the other hand, she is talented on guitar & vocals, but not even close to the level that I'd expect for someone that is so highly talked about.

Hi neighbor.
The words for the day are 'Corporate Creation'.
Can you say 'Corporate Creation'?

Good job!
I knew you could do it.
--------------------------------------------------

I think shes a slightly above average lead guitarist, and a fairly good singer - but theres lots of those in america.
Decent role model for aspiring women guitarists I suppose. (For now)

I think she's an awesome guitar player!!

You know.. There are people here in Vegas who think the same of me. Especially Metal guitar players. They don't get why I get any attention at all. I can't even read music. If I do scales, I don't even know what they are. But it's not always about how many scales you know, or how fast you can play. It's more about creating what's appropriate for the song at hand. I think Orianthi does that very well. I saw her live and she was great. A lot of energy, and she plays in a classy way. Not just over the top shredding.

There are a couple of solos on our new CD where I can see I need some work. I wish I had more time to work on them before recording them. I had to go into the studio earlier than expected. One of our singers was sick when it was his turn, and I lost the week I wanted to use to really re-write some solos with more finesse. My solos in a lot of cases were done in a jam-band kind of improvising way, and I didn't want that in the studio.

But there are also a few that I think will impress people. Not for any shredding aspect, just the creativity and how they fit the mood of the songs.

There are a butt-load of guitar players in the shredding world who are really fast and know complicated scales. But I'm less impressed by it than I am a slow solo that has a lot of character and creativity.

Orianthi did some really cool Bluesy stuff in her set, and in my opinion it was very impressive.

Haha. No. But there ARE people out here who are technically way better of a guitar player than I am. And yet there are a lot of people here who (and I say this in the most humble way) consider me to be their local favorite. Believe me, I get my share of dirty looks from other guitar players. But I play for myself and my fans first and foremost. There are other guitar players who love hearing me as well. But to the progressive-metal-hard-core technical (however you want to categorize them), I see them yawning at me all the time.

I can see that Orianthi has been scooped up by the industry. But.. What would you expect her to do? Flip everyone the bird?? It's the age old "sell-out" argument. But I think it would be dishonest to say that she didn't grind it out and pay her dues beforehand. When I talked to her, she said she started at an early age. She's in her late 20's now? That's a good amount of dues paid.

Anytime anyone can hit the stage with Santana and hold their own, I think that's enough said as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE1ocn11 ... re=related

I don't have a problem with her wanting to cash in a little bit. I think you'd be pretty crazy to turn down lucrative offers, endorsements, positive press, etc.. Green day is the first band that comes to my mind in the whole "sell-out" argument. Would you have followed their path? Or stayed a local underground punk band? I think their wallets have the final answer to that. Like it or not, they are living well as a result of signing with major labels.

Now if you're just not impressed because you don't think she's really all that good, that's ok too. But the whole corporate argument? I just don't see how she would be able to turn down what she's doing now. It's the Jonas Bros. types that I really can't get into. For the life of me, I just can't see applying the same tag to Orianthi. Throw the guitar player for the Jonas Bros. on stage with Santana and see if he can hang. And yet I'd bet anything, he's already had a more lucrative musical venture.

Not sure what you mean here. Are you saying you need to buy one from here and have it shipped?

You don't have to change your position man. It's fine with me. If we have different views, we just do. It's not a big deal. Tell me all Squiers are crap though, and it's ON!!

Hahahaha!! JK

No, I mean steal one from GC vegas, then ship it to me :)
I cant afford a 3000 dollar guitar.

You know... it just turns me off that it 'seems' like shes letting her career be sent off down the path of kelly clarkson and company.
Im sure its a tough position to be in, but... I think it's reducing her credibility, and could turn her into a 'has been' in the span of a couple years.
Actually, let me go one further - it's going to turn musos off and prevent them from taking her seriously - then reduce her to a 'has been'.
You could say that Green Day sold out, but I think their music got better as they went along.
'According to you' is indistinguishable from kelly clarkson or avril lavigne to me - it just happens to have a snazzier guitar solo on it.

I did search out some of her bluesy playing though, and it 'is' pretty good.
