Have not seen Jackass myself, the astronaut line originally came from an early 80s british programme called auf wiedersehen pet. It was about a bunch of geordie brickies working in germany, the line has always stuck in my head lol.
Irminsul, in answer to your question when i started playing synth in the 80s [lost my analogue virginity to a Roland Juno 60] the uk music scene was very exiting experimental progressive and tolerant. From 84 onwards things went down hill fast, naff shallow pop and the emergence of boy bands....these glorified pretty boy dancers still make my speakers heave and vomit when they start up their whining little boy voices. Of course this is a bit of a generalisation, we do still have some excellent artists, it just seems to me that they are massively out numbered by a lot of crap most of which can be knocked together on a computer in a couple of hours.
On a more positive note lol, we seem to now be going back to the drum, bass n couple of guitars type band again. At least this format involves people actually playing instruments again and usually attempting their own lyrics.
Maybe music tolerence depletes as we get older, the old parent not liking the music their children are listening to scenario. Although recently i did have a jam with a few teenagers who proudly informed me that they had just discovered Pink Floyd. How refreshing.

On the bright side though, schools in the South are now teaching piano and keyboards as two separate lessons with separate teachers. The keyboard lessons are by far more popular than the piano lessons, so things are looking up!

Oh, and welcome by the way! :D

I really need a synth player. Real up front for the sound too. dominant infact. If you want to make a beautiful racket with your synths, hit me up. :)

Because noone has the brains to figure out a complicated synthesizer and push its limits. Good production and clever use of a synth is hard and has not been done since Jean Michell Jarre.
But don't worry, i am working on it ;)

Takes skill to play keys and it's another skill to play keys in the genre that you want them to play.

Guitar can be played by luck or intentional discord. lol

Look at it like this. How many good guitarists do you know? (tons)

Now how many good keys players do you know of? ( big space echo )

Is that solar wind I hear? lol

I disagree. If I see a band and the keys player is rocking hard to whatever he/she is playing, it compels me to pay attention.

On stage antics hold no mystery for me, other than the mystery of why that person is playing what they are.

i.e. If you play well in your genre, antics do nothing for me. And I recognize you as more proficient a musician than your band mates.

Seems that guitars get the gurls and synth players, well,........ :D

Actually I always seemed to get more gurls when I was playing bass than guitar. Whenever I play guitar it seems like all that want to talk to me after the set are other male guitarist............ thats the last thing I want to talk to after a hot sweaty set.

I have a real appreciation for a good keyboard or synth player and I agree they are hard to find. If any read this from west TN get in touch.

LOL Simply explained. You know how women often get off while on a motorcycle, because of the vibrations?

(if you don't, now you do)

Bass players can make similar vibrations. An even better reason to keep a really good and powerful bass stack around. LMAO

When I used to play bass, heard that more than once.
