Just listened to Solo. Pro players Good production Nice powerfull vocals. To bad she sounds EXACTLY like Avril Lavigne. Watched the video. Don't be offended with honesty but the weight thing must be addressed if she expects to be a performer on national level. The world expects barbie dolls if they're payin for it.

bwahahahahaaaa I won't even comment on the physicality of her girth, that's beneath me..

I love the hack about AVRIL LAVIGNE.

Mama Tiger? Lady, you on prescription drugs? If not, take a few anyway.

Oh Iain, you are getting more interesting as time rolls on, I see.
I love the soft put down method, I just can't do it myself.

Mamma, I am not an expert, merely another performer. I don't say musician, because it's really more of a show.

Truth be told, I really could care less what you think about anything at all. (sorry you asked for it)

Tribute band at 13? Oh so she's a failed Miley Cyrus? Now I get it.

My Space is an internet nothing. 1 Million hits on your website gets you a reality show if you are average and attractive.

Ok and I am reminded it is a vehicle to let people know where you are playing. (for some, not us)

What I really think is her music is crap, poorly constructed and AVERAGE.

Nice recording though, too bad the content is just not in evidence.

She has a decent voice but the material is just sleep inducing, like taking cold medicine and then having a stiff drink of something like Everclear.

I can go on if you want to call me out again, else I'll just let you lie down with your Valium and sleep it off.

"This is the internet where your slow mental skills will only result in huge wounds to your pride and overall confidence".

I wouldn't let her read what we write, it might make her stutter on stage..

OooooOOooohhh MuhahahaaaahahahaahHAHhahHAhHAHAhhaaaaa

(loads up Voodoo Hex #3) lol

lol, Capt.
You are pretty damned funny when you actually let loose and talk about something for awhile.

Left jabs for everyone, please.

Not paying the bills though..and that's what matters.

It's all about the ducats and lack of them. (awwwww) lol

When my fleeting musical career goes officially into the shitter, I may try stand up but I have to have some material else I would just start selecting people from the crowd to tear a sunder.

It'd be like a bad version of NUTTY PROFESSOR, but no Eddie Murphy to save anyone. No, it'd be one huge guy waiting for me in the alley to stomp me like he's finger painting but with his feet/boots/shoes.

To quote Daffy Duck, "it's a trick I'd only be able to do once". lol

My $.02:

The video sound track is poor, but that is more a result of poor recording quality than performance or mic technique. Hire a pro sound man. She is confident as a performer, and for her age has great stage presence.

The studios tracks are not well mixed (the vocal is buried in the background instruments), but that is easily fixed by changing engineers/mixers. Hire a pro to do the recording.

Having said that, she shows a lot of potential, both as a writer and a performer. She is 16 years old? For that age, she is incredible.

Have you shopped her to any major players in the business? With the right direction and backing, I think that she has a bright future. If I were you, I would be shopping for a deal in LA, NY or Nashville.

Please don't let the negativity you have encountered here dissuade you from pursuing her career. You’ll have to learn to filter the compliments and the criticisms, and rise above them. Most of the time, the critics either don’t know what they’re talking about, or are simply jealous.

I wish you both luck, and when she has a hit song on the radio, I will remember this exchange and smile.

Wow....I wished I'd logged on last night. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Sr. Jalapeno & Chris4Blues - thanks for your comments and suggestions. indie pop/alternative rock is actually the genre she's going for, so wouldn't it be a "good thing" for her to sound comparable to current artists?

Phil - totally agree with you on exposing her to more styles...which we are working on. Keep in mind that she's only been playing guitar for around 2 years. As she learns new strumming techniques and chords, her songwriting should only improve. At the risk of being brutalized for inserting more youtube links, if you are interested in hearing other styles/emotions she has come up with so far, take a look at these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce7rNT67VcI AND
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp5mMhKtGN4

Klugmo - thanks for your comment. Yes, we are aware of the weight issue and are working on it. Due to genetics, however, she'll probably never be a "barbie", Miley or Taylor and has no such aspirations to be. Fortunately, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, & Jennifer Hudson have opened the door for other body types to succeed in the biz. For health reasons, though, she is now on a fitness program and working toward a weight loss goal.

90db - Thank you very much. We're on a tight budget and the studio we were using really messed up the mix on the last 4 songs recorded. We changed studios before mastering, and attempted to fix the mix as best as possible without the expense of re-recording and they were dramatically improved as best as possible. The next recordings will be made at the better studio. Chandler just turned 17 last month, but wrote the music & lyrics for "Forevermore" when she was only 15 and had only just started playing guitar. She is working with an experienced producer now that has many contacts and has even shared her music with many of his friends, including one that is a major A&R rep, all of whom are very impressed with Chandler. We're not ready to "officially" shop labels yet, though. We're trying to build her fanbase, get more live shows booked and expand her repertoire of original songs first. She's already won a couple of local "battles of the bands" and has some songs streaming on internet radio. We've also recently added some equally gifted musicians to back her and help with more current arrangements for future songs. Unfortunately, the Dallas live music scene is pretty bleak, particularly for teen musicians. If she's not where she wants to be by high school graduation, she's considering attending Belmont University in Nashville. Her youth is, I believe, her biggest asset. She has plenty of time to develop her style.

Again, thank you everyone for your criticism and comments.

Comparable or indestinguishable from? If your goals are to fit in, then sure - she'll fit in fine. Speaking for myself and my genre only - if I owned an AC/DC album, why would I go out an buy an AC/DC tribute band's album?

I just think her style blends in too much - as a music listener / potential fan, my ears don't perk when I hear her. It's like walking into a Starbucks for a coffee - I'm greeted by music, but I don't NOTICE the music, if you know what I mean.

Anyways, if she's THAT young, she has a ton of potential to work from. Music isn't just music - it's performance/entertainment, so keep that in sight too when honing her skills.

Best,
Chris

Your Quite Welcome. I think It's great when a parent takes a strong interest in helping their children reach their goal(s). Mine took some interest in my music career by funding lessons, buying me a set, etc... But not to the extent you have.

Sounding comparable to current artist, well.... there's the rub -
She has to have "The Contemporary Sound" If this sound can be so defined, And in the biz they do, in order to attract the attention of Publishers or A&R Representatives at the labels. The main factor and what I heard lacking somewhat in her demos is the vocalist has to be out front
in the mix, so the voice is easliy distinguishable, then as Chris had mentioned, there they will define her uniqueness in voice. To quote a New Orleans Producer I once had the opportunity to meet and speak with in person- "I'm looking for the next guys to be Van Halen, but they need to sound better!"

Best Regards,
El' Peno'

YO MAMMA, I applaude you trying to help your daughter, the same as saving for her continued education after high school.
The music biz is very dirty, from the bar scene to all animals claiming to be producers making obscene promises.
Your girl has talent and you are doing everything you can. Good mom. Just don't set her up for a broken heart because THIS BIZ IS AS DIRTY AS ANY.

If I had a buck for everytime some says it sounds like so and so , or it has allredy been done, or...
The best tracks posted up here are ORIGINAL and immediatley they get compared to something else.

Mom you gotta follow heart, so does your girl, if you wanna go fishin' , please be careful of the sharks.

Thanks, Glen. I'm definitely starting to see that what you're saying is true, and I worry about it. I appreciate the encouragement.

She's got her first festival booking in a couple of weeks, opening for Carolina Liar, Mute Math & Bowling for Soup. She's so excited...but nervous, too.

You're one in a million, & your daughter has no idea how lucky she is!
