To play badly is bad, but to emulate someone else to ad nauseum is a joke. Go forth and search for what is YOU, if there is any..anywhere.

Unless you are John Denner, then Capt will worship you, even though you are ripping off EVH!

I don't worship anyone except the big guy upstairs.

(and I have big finger bruises all over me)

John Denver died in a plane crash, yes.

John Denner, on the other hand is a guy with no pick hand that plays pretty well in a "gotta sound like EVH" kind of way.

My major bitch is why do you have to sound or look or anything like someone else?

STEAL all you want, make it yours, make it you, become that which you know you can be, just don't be some note-for-note moron that can't play anything else but what your hero du jour is playing.

Build a repertoire of music that is uniquely you.

For me that means, even though I like/aspire to sound like Hendrix, I'll never play ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER or most of the mainline stuff.

I like the stuff that no one listens to, the stuff that I can play, mutate and call my own, even if it's just altering a tune a little bit to make it better IMO.

Hendrix played other peoples' music, but he played the music in his own vein, his own way.

That's about as much as any of us can aspire to at any given point.

Just listen to Dylan's version of All along the watchtower..unbelievably bad. Find music you can make better by being yourself while you play it.

Nice skills I'd love to hear your playing with drums and bass even if its 2 chord progression I bet you'd sound awesome.

I'd be easier on him if he could do some multi-track stuff, though, too. I mean, it's nice to see his stuff & all, but I'd really prefer to hear it in some sort of context.

I thought about doing something for him actually.

But I am so BEHIND on music I have promised, that I need to get certain commitments done first.

In any event, he is VERY talented, and I wish him the best.

I don't want to see that level of talent not reach it's fullest potential!

Craig, if you get a chance, send it over, hopefully I can help, thanks!!

Yeah, he's amazing, especially considering his handicap.

Agreed, but he has the same problem.

HE IS BENT ON BECOMING SOMEONE THAT ALREADY EXISTS>.

Q: How do you improve on being EVH?
A: You don't.

You think anyone with a half a brain is going to think the music is original and worth recording?

You are 1/3 what you look like, including stage presence.
(If they like it, you'll know)
You are 1/3 what you play and how well you play it.
(repertoire and proficiency)
You are 1/3 tone and setup.
(do not sound exactly like anyone or be swallowed up by the masses)

And no one person is an island, generally.

Well, I am almost large enough to be declared an Island!

I figure, a few more dozen Dunkin' Donuts and I will be able to declare myself a tax shelter!
