My baby, Mary J. Blige was TEARING IT UP on Led Zepplin's "Stairway to Heaven" on American Idol Gives Back!!!

And that chick lead guitarist that was on Michael Jackson's tour (film) played lead on the song! She is just BADASS for a chick on lead guitar!

And Randy Jackson was playing in the band too!

There just aren't many top-level female lead guitarists are there?

I've seen some really good ones.

But are any in the Top 10 - Top 50 even, of the best lead guitarists in the world? Sadly no... unless someone can correct me.

I consider it more like Men's Golf and Women's Golf, and Men's Tennis and Women's Tennis. When you say that a certain female golfer, is the best in the world.... she is best among WOMEN, but not if she were competing with men.

Men and women are different sometimes.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

so, I felt obligated to pointed out, that she was BADASS among "female guitarists" otherwise, someone surely would have stated... "She's not in Steve Vai's leaugue"

Know what I mean?

But that leads to a good question...

Why are women not able to excel, as far as men, in lead guitar?

Is it finger strength? Finger length? Different brain processing?

WHAT IS IT???

There are women with long fingers!

What's the deal?

You cannot compare sports to the arts. Major faux pas.

When it comes to art, men and women are absolutely equal.

Or perhaps it would be OK to then say men are better at politics than women?

Know what I mean?

Oh I've seen women guitar players that could blow anyone on this board away. The industry favors sweaty hairy guys playing guitar.

Yeah, but what is the problem then?

Cultural norms?

Not enough women pursue playing lead guitar?

I'm not a lead guitarist, so HELP ME OUT HERE!!!

Ok, I didn't say "On this board" though.

I've seen some really good female lead guitarists on YouTube, and once in a while, like this girl who played on Idol tonight.

Why aren't any... THE BEST???

Or are some?

Are any as fast and flexible as Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen, for example?

The music industry says it's OK for women to play acoustic guitar. But the lead guitar is a phallic symbol and it's almost porn to watch a woman rip up a good lead. Ever heard of musical masturbation?

Agreed on the Phallic symbol part, but LEGAL PORN should be good for ratings shouldn't it?

LOL

But that doesn't explain it.

A woman who was equal to Steve Vai, would be honored as such.

Skill is Skill.

I admire "ALL" successful and accomplished women Jimmy.

Are you serious?

I wanted Hillary to win over Obama.

She was far more qualified and smarter too!

Obama is very intelligent... but she is just MORE intelligent than MOST men in American Politics!

Okay now back to the guitar. IMHO, women just seem to be too introverted which prevents them from excelling on cool instruments. It's not the lack of ability but the lack of psychological gonads...seriously.

Look at Ian Anderson and his flute. He notoriously played it phalically. Girls just don't do that.

For example:

Well anyway, I would have loved to see Mary J. sing Stairway to Heaven.I was really drawn into Michael J's guitarist.I think that we will hear much more from her.
I am sure it is on Youtube. Imma find it.

Singlemindedness in men.
The conqueror mindset.
Much more prevalent in the male of the species.

Plus women are still a minority in rock n roll, so theres less hot shot guitarists.
