Update

So, my flight did end up getting canceled.

I called Air Canada and they rescheduled me for next weekend. Which is not a big deal to me; talking to my girlfriend in Germany, this time period actually works out better, and our trip to Venice is still on. I'm stoked; just hoping the volcano calms down.

BBC is reporting that the airlines are currently doing test flights and the ash is not affecting the planes. So I am hopeful.

And I have to say: the two Air Canada people I talked to over the phone this weekend were some of the MOST HELPFUL customer service representatives I've ever worked with. I give Air Canada two thumbs up for their service. I will DEFINITELY fly with them in the future if I have a chance.

Kudos to them.

(I think it helped that I was a good customer; I'm very excited about this trip, even if it gets delayed... So, if you're not an agry customer, I think they appreciate helping you)

Is this the first time you are meeting face to face?

You're an American, going overseas in a time of war, and travelling with someone you only know online, to a THIRD COUNTRY.

Just a "little" worried.

If she was Mexican, I would tie you down and PROHIBIT you from going!

LOL

*PC POLICE DISCLAIMER:
They Kidnap ALOT of Americans in Mexico!

She's an American Craig :)

She's just been in Europe for a lot of years as a professional singer.

And knowing her... is something I can't really explain to anyone in any way that does it justice. We didn't meet online. Her sister, who sings in my band, actually set us up. She said she did not know two people who were more perfect for each other.

And it turns out, she was right.

As a non-religious guy, I have never particularly subscribed to the idea of "Soul Mates".

I've changed my mind on that since meeting my girlfriend...

LoL its not that bad Craig. I was traveling alone in Amsterdam, Paris and Prague this year. I'm 5'8 about 145lbs, Asian kid and didnt have any problems. My advice is to avoid the problem areas of all cities and town you visit. A great source would be to ask the Taxi drivers about the crazy spots.

Colors, Venice is beautiful and you will have a good time. Don't forget to make out with the fraulein at the Piazza San Marco.

Thanks for the clarification, cause I will sleep better!

No joke.

I would have been nervous 'till you got back dude.

But... That is a GREAT story!

Only time will reveal whether you are "soul mates" in the truest sense. Anything that occurs between two people early on, is merely... CHEMISTRY, and not "love" or "destiny".

To me... people are not BORN soul mates... they BECOME soul mates. There are any number of potential "soul mates" out there, for a person. It is what happens over TIME... YEARS, then DECADES, that really makes two souls inseperable.

I only tell you this, because some people who are SURE someone is their soul mate, then lose them later, end up losing the magical feeling they once had, then they settle, later.

Love "IS" magical though!

And TRUE LOVE... that survives all challenges throughout the years, is even MORE MAGICAL than the initial "feeling" of love (chemistry) because it lasts, it sacrifices more, it proves more, it bonds more, it is more rare, and more PERMANENT!

Real love, I tell people, is a VERB, not a NOUN.

It is ACTIONS, rather than FEELINGS.

Good advice! Thank you!

I am looking for places in Venice I need to see. We only have a couple days there. So any suggestions like that, please send my way!

If you were going to Torino, I could have put you in touch with my friend Maurizio, who is a chef there. We used to work together in Washington, DC. He was the best man at my first marriage. We recently got back in touch, after a number of years. He told me he still has the Gretch 25th Anniversary guitar I gave him, more than 20 years ago now.

St. Mark’s Basilica
Gondola Rides
Bridge of Sighs
Grand Canal
Gallerie dell’ Accademia

You can walk to most of these or take a water taxi.

Very cool!

We're staying at a hotel in the middle of old Venice. So we should be able to walk :-)

You're getting me more excited for this trip man... damn it's gonna be fun!
