As some of you might recall I am a dog lover, We have 3 a Rat Terrier, Miniture Pincher, and my favorite a pug chihuaha mix we rescued as a puppy from the pound 2 years ago. We named him Trip short for tripple (Star Trek Interprise) as he was the 3rd dog. When I got home from work yesterday we noticed he was acting lathargic and whining I offered him one of his favorite treats and he didn't even react (he never turns down food) so I scooped him up and headed for the vet. The vet diagnosed him with pancreatitus. He has to spend 4 days at the animal hospital. So far the bill is up to $1300.00 DANG!
I had been working a bunch of overtime saving for a rainy day fund so we could have some peace of mind. Well its back to square 1 and more O.T.
I guess I should quit whimpering and sniveling and just be glad I have a job. :)

Sorry to hear that J, that's why I won't even own a goldfish. I know, I'm a selfish bastard, but after my dog passed away from cancer I decided I was done. Pets become part of the family and vets know this; they can extort unreasonable sums out of people.

Im kinda with Jimmy on this. I have a yard dog, he just wondered up and and I started feeding him so he is part of the family, but I try not to get too attached to them. Plus my lifestyle has me on the road a few days a week a lot of times, so inside pets are a dfinite no-no.

Im sorry, it seem pets can get expensive in a situation like this. I had a dog who had cancer one time and we spent thousands on him and he wound up dying anyway.

Hope this all works out for you.

Do you Love your dog? Then you did the right thing. I have 7 cats and 2 dogs.May want to look into pet insurance.
You could also look for a vet in the country, they typicaly charge much less for obvious reasons.

OH by the way, you are way ahead in Karma.

Sorry to hear that. Pets are family too and it's not easy to see them suffer. On a similar note, my wife was a rabbit breeder for a while - we currently have 7 pure-breds. One of them came down with snuffles, and in a panic she brought him to the vet here in cali. $400 dollars to prescribe antibiotics, and the vet wanted the rabbit over night to keep an eye on the little guy. $1,200 a night ... we decided not to. Fortunately, he recovered with a lot of tenderlovin care, but man... I can sympathize on the cost of pet care with you. Best to you.

So sorry to hear this, JH.

Yeah, pets are family, & expensive as ppl when they get sick or injured.

After we tackled the health care issues for ppl, perhaps we should do the same for animals. (I can't imagine the backlash on this one!)

Perhaps he named him Trip in honor of Chippy?

The USS Interprise is the porn flick where Kirk does Uhuru.

Wanna take one?
It is but a short walk.
Seriously though I adore people who look after their animals and I know its tough doing so. I would live a moment without mine, they are my TOP pals. A cancer Cat lives with me now and says thank you each night as she pummels my stomach with soft massages. There is no bigger thank you.

Yeah, she loves animals! Grilled to perfection. :-)

Reminds me of the line from the recent movie "Did You Hear About The Morgans?"

Spoken to Sarah Jessica Parker's character...

"Yeah, I'm a member of PETA too! Only mine is... People for Eating Tasty Animals!"

I know all about this shite, with my last cat it was a combo of my lack of funds, and a genuine feeling that her seizures were beyond the vets ability to fix that added up to me putting her down. With the current cat I pay $20 a month on insurance for $5000 per illness/accident per year with a $300 deductible per year on the policy. Now of course I'll have to see if they come through if anything major occurs, but I figure the $20 a month is worth it for a razor clawed cat who leaves my amps, guitars, and furniture alone

Pancreatitis is often caused by too much alcohol.
What kind of favorite snacks does he get J ???

Seriously: I have spent some big bucks on a dog a time or two.
The best dog I ever had fell out of my truck on a hunting trip.
Compound fracture. Was costly. But he was damn good dog.
One of those who did not bark he just went into kill mode if you messed with children in his presence. ( Though he lived in mortal fear of me so no home issues)
I swear that dog understood English. Very obedient. Would jump the tailgate of my truck to ride with me. That was his truck !!

I hope all comes out well for you and your furry friend.
I hate to put animals down. But I won't let the vet do it for me either.
My yard is kind like a pet cemetery. Cats, dogs, my beloved Pork Chop.
Yes animals become family.

Thanks for all of your concerns! I went to see Trip last night and he was looking alot better. He wouldn't look me in the eye though. I think he is pissed at me for leaving him there! Our home just won't be the same untill he is there! I will try to post some pics. of him later (the wifey will) I already tried with NO success!

Oh and George he gets no alchohol! Just kidding! He gets Beggin strips and mostly just dogfood. Every once in a while I will give him a chip or something but I am very careful not to give him to much people food. He is a Pug Chihuaha mix. From his forhead to his tail he looks and is built just like a pug. From his forhead to his nose he looks more like a Chihuaha! Some kids were seen throwing something over our fence Tuesday as soon as I find out who they are and where they live I am calling the cops! There are no houses behind us just a street!
